The Lincoln University women's basketball team nearly completed a rally from a double digit deficit late in the game but fell to Seton Hill University 71-68 at the CIAA-PSAC Challenge at Virginia State University Friday evening.

The game was the season opener for both teams. Lincoln will play Slippery Rock University in the second game of the conference challenge event on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. on VSU's campus in Ettrick, Virginia.

Teira Pendleton (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytech) led the Lions with 14 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.Â
Brittany Hinton (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter (Baltimore City C.C)) added 13 points (6-8 FG) and five rebounds.
Shecquan Bailey (Denton, Md./Snow Hill (Baltimore City C.C.)) and
Brianna Logan (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley (Siena)) had three assists apiece.

The Lions trailed by four entering the fourth quarter and after a three-pointer by SHU's Lindsey Mifsud, consecutive 3-balls from
Michelle Fitzgerald (Baltimore, Md./Md. Academy of Tech & Health Science (N.C. A & T)) and Bailey closed the gap to one a 55-54. The Griffins followed with an 11-2 flourish to take a ten point lead 66-56 with 4:54 left before Lincoln began its late rally.

The Lions scored the next eight points getting two baskets apiece from Logn and
Ariana Fleming (Newark, Del./Hodgon Vo-Tech) to close within two, 66-64 with 2:29 remaining. Mifsud then sank another three-pointer before Fitzgerald and
McKenzie Spencer (Richmond, Va./Henrico) added single free throws to pull the Lions within three with 51 seconds left. Pendleton added a basket with ten seconds left to make the score 69-58 before Mifsud sank two free throws to provide the final points of the game.  Logan's three-point attempt at the buzzer would not fall and the Griffins came away with the win.

For the games, the Lions had a slightly better shooting percentage (41.3%-38.1%) than the Griffins but were outscored 30-15 from beyond the arc. Lincoln struggled from the free throw line, making just 11 of 21 shots (52.4%) while the Griffins made 13 of 16 (81.3%). Seton Hill had a slight edge on the boards, 41-40 while the Lions committed four fewer turnovers (16-20).
