Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lions Place Six in Double Figures and Cruise to Opening Night Victory

The Lincoln University men's basketball team placed six players in double figures as they cruised to a 93-71 win over Bluefield College in their season opener Friday night in Bluefield, Virginia.

The win was the Lions' first season opening win since 2013-14 (a 69-60 triumph over West Chester University).  Lincoln's 93-point effort was also the most points the team had scored in a game since December 2014 when the Lions put up 95 against Johnson C. Smith at Manuel Rivero Hall (a 95-88  win).  The Lions are now 1-0 while Bluefield drops to 1-1.

TreVaughn Wilkerson (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic (Hartford)) led the team with 18 points while Gevon Arrington (Chesterfield, Va./Petersburg (Richard Bland)) added 14.  A trio of Lions chipped in 12 points apiece, led by Cameron Campbell (Fayetteville, N.C./Trinity Christian ). Campbell also grabbed ten rebounds to record the first double-double of his college career. He also had a team high four assists.

Jordan Camper (Chester, Pa./Chester) added six rebounds and four blocks to go along with his 12 points and Elijah Bush (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore (Essex County CC)) had three blocks with his dozen points.  Josh Page (Washington, D.C./Rock Creek Christian Academy) came off the bench to add 11 points and round out the Lions double figure scorers.  Dequan Williams grabbed seven rebounds while Arrington added six.

The Lions trailed for only 2:25 during the first half and never in the second.  In the first half the Rams led by one twice, the last at the 9:45 mark at 20-19.   James Richardson (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder (Raritan Valley C.C.)) followed with a basket to give the Lions the lead back, and start what would be a 30-9 uprising over the final nine minutes as the Lions to a 20-point lead into the locker room at the half, 49-29.

Lincoln extended their lead to 28 points in the first four minutes of the second half with a 14-6 flourish, taking a 63-35 lead, getting six points from Arrington and four apiece from Campbell and Camper.  The Rams could pull no closer than 20 points the rest of the way as the Lions cruised to the opening night victory.

The Lions took 13 fewer shots than the Rams but made the most of their attempts, connecting on 51.7% (31-60) while Bluefield made just 39.7% (29-73) of their shots.   Lincoln also dominated on the free throw line, connecting on 23 of 25 shots while the Rams made just four of 11.  The Lions also dominated the glass, 39-28. Both teams had 13 assists.

The men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, November 11, 2017 when they visit Bluefield State College in bluefield, West Virginia.  Tipoff is at 2:00 p.m.
