The Lincoln University women's volleyball team was swept by host Virginia Union University 3-0 Monday night in Richmond, Virginia.
The loss drops the Lions record to 4-15 overall and 2-12 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) matches. Virginia Union improves to 11-9 overall and 4-3 in league matches.  Lincoln currently sits in a tie for fourth place in the CIAA North Division with Elizabeth City State University as both teams are 2-12 in all conference matches and 2-6 in division matches. The two team teams split the season series and both squads have two conference games remaining. The top four teams in each division qualify for the CIAA Tournament Championship.
Mariah Russell (St Louis Mo./Maplewood Richmond Heights) led the Lions with eight kills while
Aubury Coleman (Mason City, Iowa/ Mason City) added seven. Russell also had the only two aces recorded by the Lions.Â
Alisa Foster (Philadelphia, Pa./Science Leadership Acad.) led the team with 19 assists. On the defensive side,
Tymera Crudup (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) recorded 11 digs.
The Panthers were led by Kamryn Young's 10 kills. Ambryanna Moore added eight kills. A'rmaria Wright led the team with 20 assists and two aces.  She also had ten digs. Akira Baker led the team with 19 digs while Kodi Thacker had three blocks.
VUU held a 34-23 advantage in kills and had the better attack % (.112 to .000). The Panthers also out dug the Lions 49-33; had four more aces (6-2) and four more team blocks (5-1).
The women's volleyball team returns to action on Saturday, October 28, 2017 when they travel to Rutherford, New Jersey to take on Felician University and Dominican College for a pair of non-league contests.Â
