Georgian Court University defeated the Lincoln University women's volleyball team 3-0 in a volleyball "Battle of the Lions" Thursday night at Manuel Rivero Hall on the Lincoln campus.
Lincoln falls to 4-13 with the loss while Georgian Court improves to 9-14. GCU won the match via scores of 25-11, 25-18 and 25-19.
Aubury Coleman (Mason City, Iowa/ Mason City) again led LU with 11 kills while hitting .231 (11 kills, 5 errors, 26 attacks).
Mariah Russell (St Louis Mo./Maplewood Richmond Heights) added 8 kills as the two upperclassmen accounted for 19 of the team's 24 kills. Russell had just two errors in 27 attacks to hit .222.
Alisa Foster (Philadelphia, Pa./Science Leadership Acad.) led the team with 18 assists.
On the defensive side,
Tymera Crudup (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) led Lincoln with nine digs while
Tierra Russaw (Westland, Mich./Summit Academy) and Russell added eight apiece. Coleman and
Mikhi Wright (Philadelphia, Pa./Philadelphia HS for Girls) each had two blocks.
GCU was led by Peggy Rosario's 11 kills. Rosario hit .667 with just one error in 15 attacks. Ashley Pierson had 19 assists while Jackie Sweeney added ten. Aubrey Binkley led her squad with four aces while Gaby Merced added three. Merced also led the team in digs with a match-high 11.
Lincoln returns to action on Monday, October 23, 2017 when they travel to play Virginia Union University in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) north division contest.
