The Cheyney University women's cross country team took the first four places as they defeated Linconl University 19-37 at their annual Battle of the First Cross Country Dual on Thursday This year's race was hosted by Cheyney University.
Cheyney's Nazirah Purnell won the 5,000-meter race with a time of 22:39.9. The Lions first finisher was
Amanda Okodugha (Norrkoping, Sweden/ Hagagymnasiet (Young Harris)) crossing the line in fifth place with a time of 25:25.1. The next three finishers also belonged to the Lions as
Osa Enabulele (East Orange, N.J./Cicely L. Tyson), Kayla tisdale and
Adia Berkel (Wilmington, Del. /Brandywine) finshed sixth, seventh and eighth respectively. Enabulele 's time was 25:34.1 while Tisdale was 25:39.1. Berkel finished in 26:11
After two more Cheyney runners crossed the finish line, the Lions final five competitors followed.
Bianca Kennedy (Hamden, Conn./ Hamden) was 11th overall with atime of 27:37 while
Paige Harris (Bowie, Md. /Laurel) was 12th with a time of 27:50.
Destiny Greene () (13th, 28:08);
Sydney Anderson (Williamstown, N.J. /Williamstown) (14th, 28:16.1) and
Jerneice Morton (Jackson, N.J. / Jackson Memorial) (15th 28:16.2) rounded out the Lions finishers.
The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Cross Country Championships on October 26, 2017 are up next for the Lions. The Championship races will take place at Green Hill Park in Salem, Virginia.
