Lions Road Struggles Continue in Loss to Hawks

Three players reached double figures for the Lions of Lincoln University in their game at Chowan University Wednesday night, but the Lincoln squad continues to struggle on the road as they went down to defeat 81-64.

The Lions fall to 5-14 overall and 3-7 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association games.  Lincoln is also 1-7 in road games this season with the loss. Chowan improves to 12-6 overall and 6-3 in league play.

Teira Pendleton (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytech) and De'jah Taylor (Nanuet, NY/Paramus Catholic Regional) came off the bench to lead Lincoln with 14 and 12 points respectively.  Monique Cheek (Teaneck, NJ/Harford Community College) added 11 points and dished out three assists.  Diamond Mickle (Philadelphia, Pa./Paul VI (Va.) (Harford C.C.)) led the team with seven rebounds.

Jordan Payne led the Hawks with 28 points and nine rebounds while Dhyamond Crenshaw came off the bench to score 16 points while also grabbing nine rebounds.

Despite the Lions finishing the game with more field goals and three point field goals than the Hawks, the Hawks were able to gain the advantage on the foul line, shooting 43 free throws (making 31) to Lincoln's 14 (10 made).

Chowan also held a 54-33 advantage on the glass including an 18-9 mark on the offensive end, leading to a 19-2 advantage in the second chance points category.  Chowan also outscored the Lions 26-21 in points off turnovers.

The Hawks scored the first seven points of the game and the lead quickly escalated into double digits before Lincoln  tacked on the last three points of the period to trail by eight 19-11. A 13-2 flourish to open the second quarter put the Hawks firmly in control 32-13.  Lincoln countered with a 13-4 spurt to pull within ten 36-26 before the Hawks scored the final six points of the quarter to lead 42-26 at halftime.

The Lions were able to pull within ten several times in the early stages of the third quarter but a 13-2 run by Chowan boosted the lead to 21 62-41 with 2:19 left in the quarter.  Taylor had two layups to close out the quarter and close the gap to 17.  In the Lions could not come any closer than ten the rest of the way as the Hawks closed the game out with a 9-2 run to secure the 17-point win.
