Box Score The season is over for the Lions of Lincoln University as they lost to Livingstone University 77-90. The game was a repeat of last years' tournament as the two teams met in the quarter finals for the second straight year. Unfortunately the result was the same as the size and speed of the Blue Bears prove to be the difference in the game once again.
The first half was competitive and extremely close. The Lions used their speed to get inside for baskets when they saw an opening and saw success on the outside when sophomores Jordan Watson (Philadelphia, PA/Springside Chestnut Hill Academy) and Quaman Burton (Richmond, VA/John Marshall HS) had the hot hand scoring 10 points each. They finished the game leading their team in scoring with Burton putting up 17 and Watson 16 for the game. The half ended with the Lions trailing by one point at 43-44. The Blue Bears had a better shooting percentage 48% versus the Lions 44%. However, the Lions were able to counter that advantage by out rebounding Livingstone 25-13.
The second half saw the Blue Bears slow the action down to rely on their half-court game. They were able to control the boards and capitalize on second chance points where they had a 20-14 advantage. Livingstone was able to power their way to a lead midway through the second half by as much as 17 points. The Lions came within 6 points by forcing some turnovers and getting into the paint for a few three point plays by junior Joshua Davis (Saginaw, MI/Louisburg Junior College) and sophomore Sean James () who both scored 12 points, but the Blue Bears were not to be denied. They were led by Eric Dubose and Daryl Trynham who both scored 17 points. Their ability to control the offensive boards along with the depth of their bench which outscored the Lions bench 50-31 was enough to outscore the Lions down the stretch. For the game they shot 49% to the Lions 40%.
The loss ends the Lion's season and brings their overall record to 9-20. The seniors who played in their last game as a Lion were Chris Burney (Philadephia, PA/Cheyney University) and Kelly Marsh (Smithfield, NC/Pitt Community College). The Lion nation thanks you for your contribution to the Lincoln athletic program and look forward to seeing you wear your athlete sash's as you march across the graduation stage.
