Nine different players scored for Lincoln University's women's basketball team in their game against Philadelphia University Saturday afternoon but the Lions came up short, falling to the Rams 65-59 at Manuel Rivero Hall.
Â
The Lions are now 1-3 on the season while the Rams move to 2-2.Â
Tiera Pendleton was the lone Lions player in double figures with 14 points. (6-10 FG)Â
De'jah Taylor (Nanuet, NY/Paramus Catholic Regional) came off the bench to score nine points and grab a team-high ten rebounds.Â
Ashley Paynes-Hightower (Peoria, Ill./Harford Community College) added eight points and six rebounds.Â
Jaeda Davis (Milwaukee, Wis./ Rufus King HS) dished out a team high three assists.
Â
Erin Maher led the Rams with 20 points. Jess Kaminski recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds and also dished out a game-high five assists.  Rachel Day added 14 points.
Â
The game saw seven ties and ten lead changes and saw the Lions come back from a seven-point third quarter deficit and forge ahead by the end of the period. The fourth quarter alone saw three lead changes.
Â
The first of these came on a traditional three-point play by Philadelphia's Jackie McCarron to open the scoring in the final period and erase a slim 50-48 Lady Lion lead. The Lions went back on top 53-51 with 7:08 left after a Mc
Kenzie Spencer (Richmond, Va./Henrico) layup. Maher countered with a three-point field goal to put the Rams back on top 54-53 with 6:15 left. The Rams lead oscillated between one and three points for much of the remainder of the period until Maher sank another triple with just 34 seconds left to push PU's lead to four 63-59. Kaminski added two free throws in the final second to provide the Rams with their final margin of victory.
Â
The five-point advantage equaled the lead the rams started with in the second half. After a Rams basket increased the lead to seven, the Lions embarked on a 14-4 run to take their first lead since midway through the second quarter. Paynes-Hightower scored the first four points of the run and Wynter McLaughlin contributed six (a three-point field goal and a 3-5 free throw). Pendleton's basket with 1:36 left in the quarter put the Lions up by three 48-45, their largest advantage since the second quarter.Â
Â
The Lions biggest lead came in the second quarter as a second chance layup from Taylor gave LU at 21-16 lead at the 7:38 mark. The Rams followed with a 13-4 spurt to retake the lead and go up by four with three minutes left, later pushing the margin to seven before settling in for a five point advantage at the half, thanks to a Day triple as the buzzer sounded, taking advantage of four Lincoln turnovers.
Â
Turnovers again plagued the Lions as they committed 20 in the game, leading to an 18-9 advantage for the Rams in the points off turnovers category. Lincoln dominated on the glass, outrebounding the Rams 45-35 (18-12 offensive). Both teams made 22 field goals with the Rams outscoring the Lions 18-12 beyond the arc and 15-11 from the free throw line.  The Rams also had eight fewer turnovers.
Â
Lincoln returns to action on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 when they host the University of the District of Columbia. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
