Box Score The men's basketball team lost a tough game tonight, losing to the Panthers of Virginia Union. The final score was 73-87. The game started like a sprint race. Each team was running the floor full speed and the action was furious in the first half. The Lions shot 58.62% on 17-29 field goal attempts. The team also made 6 of 10 three point attempts which lead to a 46-46 tie at the half.
The team was not as consistent in the second half. Their shooting percentage dropped to 36% as the speedy defense of the Panthers disrupted the Lions. The Lions also missed a number of free throws hitting 13 of 26 for the game. The Lions were led in scoring by sophomore guard Jordan Watson (Philadelphia, PA/Springside Chestnut Hill Academy) who put up 15 points on 5-12 shooting with all of his baskets coming from behind the arch. He was joined in double figures by junior forward Joshua Davis (Saginaw, MI/Louisburg Junior College) who scored 10 points for the Lions. The Panthers were paced by Kory Cooley who scored 24 points on 8-13 shooting. He made 5 of 10 three point attempts, all seemingly at the worst times for the Lions. The Panthers had a balanced attack with three others scoring in double figures. Tonight's loss gives the team a 7- 13 overall record and 5-4 in CIAA Conference.
The next game is Wednesday January 27 against Chowan University at home in Manuel Rivero Hall. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
