Lincoln Loses To Wilmington on Last Second Shot

Game Decided By One Shot

Joshua Davis
Box Score

The Lions lost to the Wildcats of Wilmington University tonight. The final score was 70-73. The game was lost literally in the last second when the Wildcats number one, guard Tyaire Ponzo Meek hit a 3 pointer with one second left on the clock. The guard led all scorers with 27 points and seemed to make shots from all parts of the court.

Lincoln was led by Junior guard Joshua Davis (Saginaw, MI/Louisburg Junior College) who put up 18 points and 8 rebounds, just missing his second double-double in as many games. He was assisted by Jordan Watson (Philadelphia, PA/Springside Chestnut Hill Academy)'s 12 points and 7 rebounds. The game was hard fought and had two distinct momentum swings in the second half. The Lions went down by 10 points midway through the second half and seemed uncertain of how to score. Two minutes later the Lions went on a 10 to nothing run and the game was tied. From that point the game seemed to belong to the team who could make the most difficult shot as both played tough defense down the stretch. This was most evident in the last second. With the game tied at 70 and the shot clock and game clock almost identical, Wilmington's guard dribbled six to eight feet from beyond the 3 point arch as he was being guarded by Sophomore guard, Quaman Burton (Richmond, VA/John Marshall HS). With three seconds left on the clock he put up a rainbow from three feet out. Unfortunately for the Lions, just like most of his shots on the night the ball stayed in the air long enough to find the bottom with no time left.

The loss moves the season total to 6-12 overall. The next game is Wednesday January 20th against CIAA opponent Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina.
