MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Lincoln suffered a shutout in their road opener against the Hawks of Chowan University 5-0, on Saturday, September 5
th. Freshman
Kayla Butts (Lansdowne, PA/Bonner Prendie Catholic HS) led the Lady Lions with two shots on goal.
Chowan scored back-to-back goals in the first half to take a 2-0 lead over Lincoln. The Hawks went ahead 1-0 on a penalty kick in the 27
th minute and then scored their second goal in the 33
rd minute of action. The Hawks dominated the opening half posting 12 shots to the Lady Lions' three attempts. LU freshman goalie
Kaylee Dennis (Ashburn, VA/Broad Run HS) had four saves in the first half and added on three more saves in the second half.
Lincoln gave up three goals in the opening minutes of the second half to fall behind 5-0. Chowan's Christine Chubb netted her third goal of the game in the 58
th minute. Their next goals came in the 60
th and 62
nd minutes of play as the Lady Lions offense continued to struggle.
Despite playing with only ten players due to injuries, Lincoln finished with 11 shots on the Hawks.
