RICHMOND, Va. – Mariah Russell (St. Louis, MO/Maplewood Richmond Heights HS) scored a run and crushed a double in the second game of a double header against Virginia Union University on Saturday, March 29
th at the VUU Softball Field. Lincoln loss both games to VUU 13-0 and 15-2.
Lincoln gave up 11 hits for 13 runs in game one as the Lady Panthers blanked the Lady Lions 13-0. Pitcher
Ashley Juma (Bradywine, MD/Fairmount Heights HS) for the Lady Lions struck out two batters and defensively
Danielle Owes (Edgewater Park, NJ/Burlington County Institute) led the infield with three putouts. Lincoln had four others with two putouts with
Tara O'Brien (Twickenham, UK /St. Mark's Catholic School) leading the outfield. Virginia Union scored three runs in the first inning, one run in the second inning, two runs in the third inning, and seven runs in the fourth inning.
In game two Lincoln scored a pair of early runs on costly defensive mistakes by the Virginia Union defense.
Mariah Russell (St. Louis, MO/Maplewood Richmond Heights HS) scored on a wild pitch from second base in the first inning. LU's
Toni Smith (New Castle, DE/William Penn HS) singled up the middle in the top of the inning before Virginia Union scored eight runs off of seven hits in the bottom of the inning. Trailing the Lady Panthers 8-1 in the second inning Lincoln capitalized off of another error by the VUU defense for their second run.
Yazmine Kelly (Los Angeles, CA/Alexander Hamilton HS) was hit by a pitch and then scored on an error by the VUU infield as
Jasmine Harrison (Bridgeport, CT/Bassick HS) reached base.
Mariah Russell (St. Louis, MO/Maplewood Richmond Heights HS) doubled to right field in the third inning and
Emily Woodruff (San Diego, CA/Madison HS) singled to second base in the fifth inning for the Lady Lions. Virginia Union went on to score three runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth to seal a 15-2 win of over the Lady Lions.
