Lady Lions Softball Drops Double Header to Wesley

DOVER, Del. -  The Lady Lions suffered a double header loss on the road to Wesley College at the DuPont Softball Field on Wednesday, March 17th. Infielder Mariah Russell (St. Louis, MO/Maplewood Richmond Heights HS) had two RBIs in the early game leading the Lady Lions.
 
Mariah Russell (St. Louis, MO/Maplewood Richmond Heights HS) singled up the middle in the second inning for 2 RBIs scoring Emily Woodruff (San Diego, CA/Madison HS) and Chrisarah Johnson (Pittsburgh, PA/Brashear HS) cutting into the Wesley advantage 8-2. Woodruff led the Lady Lions with a pair of hits including a double to left-center field in the third inning.
 
Ashley Juma (Bradywine, MD/Fairmount Heights HS) struck out one batter while walking a season-low eight batters. Wesley scored 13 runs off of 12 hits in game one of a double header. In the first inning Wesley scored eight runs, then added one in the third inning and four in the fourth inning to down Lincoln 13-2.
 
In game two, Lincoln got off to a late start offensively scoring runs in the fourth and fifth innings in a 11-3 loss. Five different Lady Lions had hits led by Danielle Owes (Edgewater Park, NJ/Burlington County Institute) and Toni Smith (New Castle, DE/William Penn HS). Smith got things rolling in the fourth inning with a RBI double to left field scoring Mariah Russell (St. Louis, MO/Maplewood Richmond Heights HS). Owes singled to right field in the fifth inning that scored both Emily Woodruff (San Diego, CA/Madison HS) and Jasmin Harrison.
 
Danielle Owes (Edgewater Park, NJ/Burlington County Institute) pitched for the Lady Lions and surrendered 11 runs off of seven hits and ten walked batters. Wesley scored five runs in the first inning, four in the third inning, and two in the sixth inning.
 
Lincoln falls to 0-6 after their loss to Wesley College. The Lady Lions prepare for a CIAA Softball Roundup in North Carolina against the Southern Division. Their first game will be against St. Augustine's on March 20th at 2 p.m.
