RALEIGH, N.C. - Freshman Mariah Russell (St. Louis, MO/Maplewood Richmond Heights HS) recorded her second home run of the season against Shaw University at the 2015 CIAA Softball Roundup.
 
The Lady Lions faced Shaw University later that Saturday for their second game against CIAA Southern Division. Infielder Mariah Russell (St. Louis, MO/Maplewood Richmond Heights HS) hit her second home run of the season with a blast to center field in the second inning.
 
Infielder Chauntel Seymour (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck HS) scored the next Lady Lions run with aggressive base place in the third inning. Seymour drew a walk at the plate and then advanced to second on a ground out. She proceeded to steal third base and finally made it home on a throw by the Lady Bears defense. The Lady Lions also put together three hits in the fourth inning.
 
Toni Smith (New Castle, DE/William Penn HS) ignited the action with a single to right center field. Russell loaded the bases after Kawren Scott (Oberlin, OH/Oberlin HS) walked with a single to second base. Tara O'Brien (Twickenham, UK /St. Mark's Catholic School) hit an RBI single but Smith was thrown out at the plate as Shaw stopped the Lincoln attack.
 
The Lady Bears scored six runs in the first, three runs in the second, and 12 runs in the third inning to down the Lady Lions 21-3. Pitcher Danielle Owes (Edgewater Park, NJ/Burlington County Institute) struck out two batters and Mariah Russell (St. Louis, MO/Maplewood Richmond Heights HS) led the Lady Lions at the plate with two hits.
