COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Lions suffered a double header sweep by the Tigers of Benedict College on Saturday, February 28
th. Benedict won game one 4-2 and game two 10-4.
Benedict held the Lions to three hits and only two walked batters in a 4-2 win in the first game of a double header. Sophomore pitcher
Ronald Lashley (Brooklyn, NY/Benjamin Banneker Academy) gave up eight hits and three earned runs in his first loss of the season. Lincoln's three hits came from junior
Edwin Rivera (Bronx, N.Y./Gompers HS), sophomore
Gabriel Santiago (Bronx, NY/Mount Saint Michael Academy), and freshman
Daniel Louissaint (Central Islip, NY/Central Islip HS).
Rivera tied the game at 1-1 in the second inning on an RBI single by Louissaint. The Lions took a 2-1 lead in the next inning on an RBI groundout by sophomore
DeVante Parker (Bear, DE/Appoquinimink HS) that scored senior
Stephen Smith (Los Angeles, Calif./Dorsey HS). The Tigers responded with two runs in the third and sixth innings to down the Lions. Benedict finished with eight hits while Lincoln committed two costly errors.
In the later game, Benedict exploded for seven first inning runs and held on for a 10-4 win sweeping the series sweep of the Lions. Outfielder
Stephen Smith (Los Angeles, Calif./Dorsey HS) led the Lions with a pair of runs scored and a hit in the fourth inning.

Daniel Louissaint (Central Islip, NY/Central Islip HS) from third base to home for LU's first score in the third inning. Later that inning, senior
Martin Evans (Willingboro, N.J./Church Farm HS)' sacrifice fly out to right field brought
Stephen Smith (Los Angeles, Calif./Dorsey HS) home. Smith second run scored came in the fourth inning on an error by the Benedict defense.
The Tigers extended their led to 10-3 in the top of the fourth inning. LU cut the deficit to six runs on an error in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Ronald Lashley (Brooklyn, NY/Benjamin Banneker Academy) crossed home plate after Terrell Berringer reached base on the Benedict error. The Lions used four pitchers as freshman
Yasser Ortiz (Carolina, Puerto Rico/Juan Jose` Osuna) suffered the loss giving up six earned runs.
Brandon Bolden (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro HS) pitched for 2.1 innings striking out three batters and
Brendan Sherman-Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) struck out one in two innings. Despite both teams totaling five hits each the Tigers early momentum carried them to a series sweep over the Lions.
Lincoln falls to 1-4 overall after their road trip to South Carolina. The Lions will travel to Bloomfield, NJ on Saturday, March 7
th for a double header against Bloomfield College at 1 pm.
