LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The Lady Lions rolled to their third consecutive win defeating Bowie State University, 74-65, on Saturday, February 7
th in Manuel Rivero Hall. Senior
Zephrah Pam (Syracuse, NY/Monroe CC) and junior
Courtney Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet HS) both finished with 20 points for Lincoln.
Lincoln's defense forced Bowie State into 26 total turnovers that led to 31 points for their offense. The Lady Lions recorded 17 steals which resulted in 21 fast break points sparking their offense.
Courtney Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet HS) and
Zephrah Pam (Syracuse, NY/Monroe CC) both scored a team-high 20 points. Smith made 3-of-4 shots from three-point land and converted on 7-of-8 free-throws. Pam dominated the interior collecting 11 rebounds and knocking down 8-of-10 free-throws. Sophomore
Jailen Murphy (Nashville, TN/Brentwood Academy) finished with a career-high 11 points to lead the bench scoring.
The Lady Lions jumped out to an early 10-0 advantage holding Bowie State scoreless for the opening 4-minutes of the game.
Courtney Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet HS) scored 12 first half points carrying the Lady Lions to a 34-25 halftime lead. Lincoln scored 18 points off of 14 Bowie State turnovers and got their lead back to double digits with 1:30 left to play in the half.
Courtney Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet HS)'s second three-pointer of the half extended the LU lead to 30-20. The Lady Bulldogs held a 21-17 rebounding advantage and shot 39 percent (11-of-28) from the field meanwhile the Lady Lions were 46 percent (13-of-28) from the field but struggled at the free-throw line making 5-of-14 attempts.
In the second half Bowie State went on an early 12-3 run to get back into the game and tie it at 37-37. Lincoln responded with a 12-0 run led by freshman
Teira Pendleton (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Poly Institute) and
Zephrah Pam (Syracuse, NY/Monroe CC). Pendleton's steal and layup gave LU a 48-37 lead with 11:210 left to play. Pam made several free-throws in the second half finishing a perfect 7-of-7 from the line. The Lady Bulldogs converted on 17-of-20 second half free-throws but could not cut into the Lincoln double digit lead.
Zephrah Pam (Syracuse, NY/Monroe CC) scored 11 second half points while
Courtney Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet HS) and
Jailen Murphy (Nashville, TN/Brentwood Academy) both added eight as the Lady Lions defeated Bowie State 74-65.
Bowie State was led by Ty-Nita Baker's 39 points and five steals. Donia Naylor grabbed 11 rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs. Lincoln improves to 17-5 overall and 9-3 in CIAA play. Bowie State falls to 9-12 overall and 4-8 in CIAA play. The Lady Lions will hit the road in their next game against Elizabeth City State University on Wednesday, February 11
th at 5:30 p.m.
