Lions Fall at Home to Bowie State, 66-61

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – Lincoln dropped a home CIAA Northern Divisional matchup against Bowie State, 66-61, on Saturday, February 7th in Manuel Rivero Hall. Sophomore Joshua Davis (Saginaw, MI/Louisburg Junior College) scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half off of the LU bench.
 
The Lions made five three-pointers in the first half against Bowie State led by senior Kyle Aiken (Randolph, NJ/Randolph HS)'s two made. Lincoln shot the ball well from the outside but had a tough time inside going 9-for-30 (30 percent) from the field in the first half of play. Aiken paced the Lions with eight points in the half while Alonzo Murphy (Pittsburgh, PA/California University (PA)) was a force protecting the paint with four blocks. Bowie State outscored Lincoln 16-9 in the paint and shot 35 percent (12-of-34) from the field. At the half, Lincoln trailed 33-29.
 
Bowie State came roaring out of halftime and led by double-digits after a 6-0 run. Lincoln trailed by 16 (57-41) midway through the half. With five minutes left in the game, the Lions trailed 63-53 after being down by double-digits for the majority of the second half. Joshua Davis (Saginaw, MI/Louisburg Junior College)' slam dunk erupted the crowd as Lincoln finally got the BSU lead down to single digits. Davis continued his stellar second half of action with his second throw down of the half cutting the Bulldogs lead to 63-58 with 3:25 left to play.
 
The Lincoln crowd boosted lifted their team in the final moments, but the Bulldogs remained poised despite the late Lions rally. With a under one minute to play, Bowie State's Zafir Williams extended their lead to 66-59 with a jumper from the free-throw line. Kyle Aiken (Randolph, NJ/Randolph HS) went to the line for the Lions with 21 seconds left and made a pair of free-throws bringing the BSU lead to 66-61. The Lions were unable to stop the Bulldogs down the stretch and suffered their second lost in a row.
 
Kyle Aiken (Randolph, NJ/Randolph HS) finished with a team-high 14 points and four assists. Joshua Davis (Saginaw, MI/Louisburg Junior College) had 13 points with seven rebounds off of the Lions bench. Davis had two key steals in the second half and made 5-of-9 shots from the field. Alonzo Murphy (Pittsburgh, PA/California University (PA)) had nine points, four blocks, and four rebounds while Tony Efese (Spring Valley, NY/St. Joseph Regional HS) scored eight points and grabbed a game-high ten rebounds.
 
Bowie State was led by Cameron Knox's 17 points, six rebounds, and four steals. Justin Beck had 15 points and Zafir Williams had 11 points.
 
Lincoln falls to 13-9 overall and 7-5 in CIAA play. Bowie State improves to 18-6 overall and 10-2 in CIAA play. The Lions next game will be on the road at Elizabeth City State University on Wednesday, February 11th at 7:30 p.m.
