Lady Lions Second Half Defense Stifles Johnson C. Smith in 67-51 Victory

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The Lady Lions had four score in double figures in a 67-51 home CIAA victory over Johnson C. Smith University on Wednesday, February 4th in Manuel Rivero Hall. Lincoln outscored JCSU 41-21 in the second half while holding them to 22 percent shooting from the field.

Lincoln trailed 30-26 at halftime to Johnson C. Smith after coming up short on several attempts from the field shooting 25 percent (10-of-40). The Lady Lions did a great job in the paint grabbing 12 first half offensive rebounds anchored by senior Zephrah Pam (Syracuse, NY/Monroe CC). Pam had four offensive boards leading to ten first half rebounds. JCSU shot 40 percent (10-of-25) from the field and took a seven point lead with 1:13 left in the first half. The Golden Bulls made 8-of-10 free-throws and scored 15 points off of 10 turnovers by the Lady Lions. Zephrah Pam (Syracuse, NY/Monroe CC) ended the half with a double-double posting ten points with ten rebounds on 5-of-10 made shots.

In the second half Lincoln rallied from their halftime deficit and started to pull away from the Golden Bulls at the 15:43 mark. JCSU's Amena Brent tied the game at 34-34 for the eighth time as Lincoln responded embarking on a 22-6 run over the next eight minutes of action.

Sophomore De'jah Taylor (Nanuet, NY/Paramus Catholic Regional)'s pair of made free-throws giving the Lady Lions their largest lead (56-40) of the CIAA cross divisional matchup. Junior Amani Clark (Middletown, DE/Appoquinimink HS) scored 12 second half points and led LU defensively with three steals. Lincoln held a double digit lead the rest of the way after holding JCSU to a low 22 percent (8-of-36) from the field and 0-for-11 from three-point range. The Lady Lions outscored the Golden Bulls 41-21 in the second half and cruised to a 67-51 home win.

Zephrah Pam (Syracuse, NY/Monroe CC) notched her sixth double-double of the season with 17 points and season-high 16 rebounds. Junior Courtney Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet HS) tied a career-high for the third time with seven assists and scored 13 points. Smith converted on 10-of-11 shots from the free-throw line and made one of LU's two three-pointers. Amani Clark (Middletown, DE/Appoquinimink HS) finished with 12 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Freshman Teira Pendleton (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Poly Institute) had ten points, two rebounds, and two steals while De'jah Taylor (Nanuet, NY/Paramus Catholic Regional) had five points to lead the Lady Lions bench scoring.

The Golden Bulls had two score in double figures led by Amena Brent's team-high 12 points off of the bench and Anika Jones scored ten points. JCSU falls to 16-6 and 6-5 in CIAA play while Lincoln moves to an impressive 16-5 and 8-3 in conference play.

The Lady Lions will host Bowie State University on Saturday, February 7th at 2 p.m. in Manuel Rivero Hall.
