Lions Bench Plays Big in 83-73 Loss to USciences

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Jordan Watson (Philadelphia, PA/Springside Chestnut Hill Academy) and Vernon Young (Chicago, IL/University of St. Mary) both scored 13 points off of the Lions bench in an 83-73 loss to the University of the Sciences on Tuesday, November 24th on the road. Lincoln's bench held a 52-17 scoring advantage.

Four players ended up reaching double figure scoring for the Lions. Three were from the bench along with starter, senior guard Charles Cooley (Brentwood, MD/University of Charleston). Cooley finished with ten points but had six in the first half. The Lions were carried by Vernon Young (Chicago, IL/University of St. Mary)'s ten points in the first half off of the bench and six from Jordan Watson (Philadelphia, PA/Springside Chestnut Hill Academy).

USciences converted on 8-of-11 free throws in the first half and grabbed eight offensive rebounds. The Lions gave up 12 second chance points from those miscues and went 4-for-11 from three point range trailing at the half 35-29.

Lincoln made a season-high 28 field goals shooting 43% against the Devils. USciences finished 53% from the field but went 65% (17-26) in the second half alone building a 27 point advantage by the midway point. Lincoln's bench scored 33 of 44 second half points led by junior guard Malachi Seney (Philadephia, PA/Harfprd Community College). Seney had all ten of his points in the final 20 minutes while freshman forward Umar Saaba (Philadephia, PA/Boys Latin HS) contributed eight points. Jordan Watson (Philadelphia, PA/Springside Chestnut Hill Academy) had seven points, Blair Davis (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore City College HS) had five points and Vernon Young (Chicago, IL/University of St. Mary) scored three points.

The Lions cut the USciences lead down to ten (75-65) with 1:34 left in the game, but the Devils remained poised knocking down eight free throws and holding on for a 83-73 win.

The LU bench's 52 points scored is the most this season. Vernon Young (Chicago, IL/University of St. Mary) had 13 points on a perfect 5-for-5 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 made free throws. Young grabbed five rebounds and had two assists. Jordan Watson (Philadelphia, PA/Springside Chestnut Hill Academy) also scored 13 points on 5-of-12 made shots from the field. Watson was a threat from long range finishing 3-for-6 from three point land. Malachi Seney (Philadephia, PA/Harfprd Community College) tied his season-best with ten points on 4-of-7 made shots from the field. Seney also dished out two assists and made two shots from beyond three point range. Tracey Nelson (Waldorf, MD/University of Maryland Eastern Shore) finished with three points, a rebounds, and assist while Umar Saaba (Philadephia, PA/Boys Latin HS) scored a season-high eight points on 3-of-5 made field goals. Joshua Davis (Saginaw, MI/Louisburg Junior College) tied a career-best with nine rebounds and seven points.

The Lions fall to 1-3 overall and USciences move to 3-1 overall. Lincoln will open at home on Saturday, November 28th at 4 p.m. against Bloomsburg University.
