LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – Lincoln wrapped up the weekend CIAA Volleyball Round-Up with a 3-1 loss to Fayetteville State University on Sunday, November 1
st in Manuel Rivero Hall.
The Lady Lions took the opening set against Fayetteville State 25-20. The Broncos committed ten team errors while seniors
Jillian Lee (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Poly Institute) and
Toni Smith (New Castle, DE/William Penn HS) both had two kills. On defense
Sydney Cook (Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) led with seven digs in the first set.
Shanna King (Newark, NJ/University High School) and
Soyini Hugget (Bear, DE/Delaware Tech CC) added five apiece and
Mariah Russell (St. Louis, MO/Maplewood Richmond Heights HS) had four digs.
With the match tied at 18-18, Lincoln rallied off three consecutive points ignited by a kills by
Jillian Lee (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Poly Institute).
Kyra Orton (Detroit, MI/Renaissance HS) gave LU the lead with a service ace and then an error by FSU extended the lead to 20-18. The Broncos had two more errors down the stretch and Lee capped the victory with a final kill.
In the next three sets Lincoln's attack declined and Fayetteville State minimized their errors. FSU won the next three sets 25-11, 25-13, and 25-14 to down the Lady Lions.
Sydney Cook (Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) collected eight digs each in the second and third sets.
Soyini Hugget (Bear, DE/Delaware Tech CC) had four kills in the third set and led defensively in the fourth set with four digs.
Mariah Russell (St. Louis, MO/Maplewood Richmond Heights HS) and
Toni Smith (New Castle, DE/William Penn HS) both notched five kills apiece.
Shanna King (Newark, NJ/University High School) paced the Lady Lions with 14 assists and 16 digs,
Sydney Cook (Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) finished with 27 digs, and
Soyini Hugget (Bear, DE/Delaware Tech CC) had 13 digs with four kills. The Lady Lions recorded four blocks carried by
Jillian Lee (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Poly Institute)'s two solo stops and Shana King's solo block.
Lincoln falls to 5-12 overall and 4-10 in CIAA play. The Lady Lions travel to Ettrick, VA on November 3
rd at 6:00 pm for their next game.
