Lady Lions Ready To Compete At First Ever Trip To CIAA Volleyball Tournament Friday

FAYETTEVILLE STATE, N.C. – The women's volleyball team at Lincoln University will be making its first ever appearance at the CIAA Volleyball Tournament this weekend at Fayetteville State University. The Lady Lions will play the Rams of Winston-Salem State University at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 20th.
 
Guided by fourth year head volleyball coach Amber Sneed, the 2015 Lady Lions volleyball squad enter the CIAA Volleyball Tournament ranked as the No. 4 seed in the CIAA Northern Division with a 4-6 divisional record and 5-11 overall conference record. Winston-Salem State earned the Southern Division Title with a 9-1 divisional record and 15-1 conference stand. In the all-time series the Lady Lions trail the Rams 0-6 including a 3-0 (11-25, 18-25, 22-25) loss this season at the CIAA Round-Up on Sept. 19th.
 
Lincoln leads the CIAA in digs per set (16.10), ranks sixth in solo blocks (42), and seventh in total digs (1,079). Overall the Lady Lions played in 19 regular season matches averaging 7.40 kills per set, 6.28 assists per set, and 1.37 blocks per set. The 2015 squad set a new single season record at LU with .054 attack percentage. In a match against Johnson C. Smith,  LU set a new game record of 22 assisted blocks and 14 total blocks
 
Senior libero Sydney Cook (Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) ranks second in the CIAA in digs per set (5.00) and seventh in digs (320). Cook led the Lady Lions in both categories and also in service aces with 20. Cook needs three digs to set a new LU single season record of 232 digs by her teammate Kyra Orton (Detroit, MI/Renaissance HS) last season in 2014.
 
Senior middle blocker Jillian Lee (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Poly Institute) is second in the CIAA in solo blocks (25) but leads the Lady Lions with 44.0 total blocks. Lee also leads the team in attacks with 129 kills and .150 attack percentage. Lee had four solo blocks against St. Augustine's (10/31) and assisted on five solo blocks versus Johnson C. Smith (9/19). Lee (451) needs six kills to become the LU career leader passing Cynthia Johnson (456). Lee is the all-time leader at Lincoln in total blocks (146).
 
Junior setter Shanna King (Newark, NJ/University High School) leads the team with 340 assists ranking tenth amongst the CIAA. King is eighth in the conference in assists per set (5.07), setting a new single season record at LU. She has 1097 total assists in her third season and needs 163 to become the all-time leader at LU passing Lia Hubbard (1259).
