Aiken’s Game Winner Leads Lions to 63-61 Road Win Against Chowan

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Senior Kyle Aiken (Randolph, NJ/Randolph HS)'s jumper with three seconds left lifted the Lions to a 63-61 road CIAA victory over Chowan University on Wednesday, January 28th at the Helm Center.

After a difficult road loss in their previous game at Virginia Union, the Lions bounced back with a key CIAA Northern Divisional road victory in a close contest against Chowan.

The Hawks held a 60-59 lead with 2:29 left in regulation after senior Alonzo Murphy (Pittsburgh, PA/California University (PA)) sank a pair of free-throws for the Lions. Murphy was a beast capitalizing off of a Chowan turnover and scoring his team-high 15th point of the night springing the Lions ahead 61-60 with 1:46 left on the clock. A pair of Lincoln turnovers led to Chowan's Tiron Brown free-throw attempts with 17 seconds remaining. Brown was successful on the first but was short on the second attempt tying the game at 61-61.

Coach John Hill put the game in the hands of his senior leader Kyle Aiken (Randolph, NJ/Randolph HS) for the potential game winning basket. Aiken made his first game winner as a Lion knocking down the jumper with three seconds left on the clock giving Lincoln a 63-61 road win over Chowan.

Kyle Aiken (Randolph, NJ/Randolph HS) finished with 10 points and five assists. Alonzo Murphy (Pittsburgh, PA/California University (PA)) recorded his fifth double-double of the season scoring 15 points and grabbing ten rebounds. Murphy was 5-of-12 from the field and was efficient from the line converting on 5-of-6 attempts. Sophomore Joshua Davis (Saginaw, MI/Louisburg Junior College) was the other Lion to reach double figures finishing with 12 points and seven rebounds off of the LU bench.

The Lions improve to 13-7 overall record and 6-3 CIAA conference record. Lincoln travel to Ettrick, VA on Saturday, January 31st to take on Virginia State University at 5:00 p.m.
