Lady Lions and West Liberty Battle To 1-1 Tie in Season Opener

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA - The Lady Lions (0-0-1) battled West Liberty (0-0-1) to a 1-1 tie in their season-opener at home on Friday, September 5th. In the 35th minute, junior Jessica Obodo (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway HS) scored a goal giving the Lady Lions an early 1-0 lead over the Hilltoppers.

Lincoln jumped ahead first in their match against West Liberty with an unassisted goal in the 35th minute by Jessica Obodo (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway HS). Obodo's first career goal reached the net after a deflection by the Hilltoppers goalie. West Liberty responded 13-minutes into the second period with a booming kick over the Lincoln defense for the equalizer. Despite a 6-2 shot attempt advantage in the second period by the Hilltoppers, the Lady Lions remained poised with four saves as the match went into overtime. After two overtime periods, neither team was able to pull ahead as the match ended in a 1-1 tie.

Sophomore Tamara Greene (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway HS) led the Lady Lions with two shot attempts while junior Emily Woodruff (San Diego, CA/Madison HS) and Jessica Obodo (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway HS) had one attempt each. Both Greene and Obodo recorded a shot on goal, but West Liberty were the aggressors with 13 total shots with five reaching the goal. Defensively, sophomore Christian Harris (Rochester, NY/The Aquinas Institute) had four saves for the Lady Lions at goalkeeper. Harris protected the net for 90-minutes in her third career-start at goalie.

The Lady Lions will host Chowan University in their next match on Sunday, September 7th at 2 p.m.
