RICHMOND, Va. – The women's volleyball team at The Lincoln University competed at the CIAA Volleyball Round Up in Richmond, VA and were defeated by Winston-Salem State, Johnson C. Smith, and Livingstone.
In their opening match of the CIAA Round Up, the Lions faced Winston-Salem State and suffered a 3-0 sweep (2-25, 14-25, 20-25). Junior
Jillian Lee (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Poly Institute) and freshman
Ashanti Price (Upper Marlboro, MD/Bishop McNamara HS) led the Lions with four kills apiece. Sophomore Shana King had seven assists and senior
Tarayja Brooks (Kennett Square, PA/Kennett HS) finished with six digs.
The Lions went against Johnson C. Smith in their later game on Saturday and loss 3-0 (20-25, 16-25, 24-26). Junior
Sydney Cook (Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) collected a game-high 13 digs and
Tarayja Brooks (Kennett Square, PA/Kennett HS) had eight digs for the Lions. Sophomore
Kyra Orton (Detroit, MI/Renaissance HS) netted a pair of service aces and
Jillian Lee (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Poly Institute) finished with six kills against the Golden Bulls.
Jillian Lee (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Poly Institute) had a team-high seven kills while
Ashanti Price (Upper Marlboro, MD/Bishop McNamara HS) and
Keldesha Spencer (Nassau, Bahamas/Kingsway Academy) both added five kills in a loss to Livingstone 3-0 (15-25, 18-25, 19-25).
Shanna King (Newark, NJ/University High School) had 19 assists for Lincoln and
Tarayja Brooks (Kennett Square, PA/Kennett HS) led defensively with nine digs. Price added eight digs and King had seven for the Lions.
Despite three conference losses over the weekend, the Lions were led by
Jillian Lee (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Poly Institute)'s 17 total kills and
Ashanti Price (Upper Marlboro, MD/Bishop McNamara HS)'s 14 totaled.
Shanna King (Newark, NJ/University High School) tallied 40 assists while
Tarayja Brooks (Kennett Square, PA/Kennett HS) and
Sydney Cook (Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) each had 23 digs.
The women's volleyball team at The Lincoln University will host Wesley College at home on Tuesday, September 16
th at 7 p.m. in their next game.
