Smith Homers Against Virginia Union

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA – Toni Smith (New Castle, DE/William Penn HS) hit her first homerun of the season against Virginia Union University on Saturday, April 12th. Lincoln loss both games of the double header against the Lady Panthers 23-7 & 17-3.
 
The Lady Lions combined for 10 hits against the Lady Panthers led by catcher Emily Woodruff (San Diego, CA/Madison HS)'s three hits. Woodruff went 3-for-4 at the plate and had a season-high four RBIs including two doubles. Outfielder Chauntel Seymour (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck HS) also hit a double and drew the only walk for the Lincoln while Avree Morton (Uniondale, N.Y./Holy Trinity HS), Kyla Sead (West Haven, CT/Hill Regional Career Magnet HS), and Tara O'Brien (Twickenham, UK /St. Mark's Catholic School) all had an RBI each.
 
Lincoln gave up seven hits and a total of 23 runs to Virginia Union. The Lady Lions scored two runs in the first and second innings, one run in the third inning and two runs in the fourth inning.
 
In the second game of the double header, Virginia Union jumped out to an early 7-0 advantage, but Lincoln's infielder Toni Smith (New Castle, DE/William Penn HS) crushed a home run over the left field fence in the second inning for LU's first run.
 
Despite falling giving up eight more runs in the next few innings, the Lady Lions used three hits that led to two runs in the fourth inning.
 
Infielder Jasmine Dabney (Baltimore, Md./New Town HS) led the inning off with a single to left field followed by a single by outfielder Deidre Johnson (Seattle, WA/Renton HS). Tara O'Brien (Twickenham, UK /St. Mark's Catholic School) also singled and then Chauntel Seymour (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck HS) recorded a fielder's choice RBI to bring home Dabney. VUU was forced into an error by an Emily Woodruff (San Diego, CA/Madison HS) RBI that scored Deidre Johnson (Seattle, WA/Renton HS).
 
VUU sealed the victory with two runs in the fifth inning for a 17-3 final.
 
The Lady Lions combined for five hits. Smith hit her first homerun of the season while Emily Woodruff (San Diego, CA/Madison HS) had the only double for Lincoln. Woodruff also stole a base along with Chauntel Seymour (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck HS).
 
Lincoln drops to 0-19 and 0-15 in CIAA play. The Lady Lions will host Shaw University on Sunday, April 13th for a double header beginning at noon.
