McKenzie’s Double-Double Falls Short Against Bowie State, 63-60

Box Score BOWIE,MD - Three Lions reached double-figure scoring led by Timothy McKenzie (Central Islip, NY/Central Islip HS)'s career-high 16 points and 14 rebounds as Lincoln fell 63-60 to Bowie State on Saturday, February 8th.

Lincoln held Bowie State to 36% shooting from the field in the first half. Freshman forward Timothy McKenzie (Central Islip, NY/Central Islip HS) and senior guard Justin Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor HS) both had six points to pace the Lions. McKenzie hit the glass for six rebounds in his first collegiate start at Lincoln. The Lions won the rebounding battle 19-18 and made 5-of-11 free-throws. Senior guard George Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor HS) made the Lions only three-pointer of the half and Lincoln led 30-27 over Bowie State.

The Bowie State bench took over in the second half outscoring Lincoln 23-12. Timothy McKenzie (Central Islip, NY/Central Islip HS) dominated the interior with 10 points and eight rebounds which seven were collected on the offensive side. Lincoln allowed five three-pointers and failed to score one of their own in the final half of play.

Justin Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor HS) gave the Lions their biggest lead of the afternoon 39-31 with a 13:28 left. Bowie State stormed back on an 11-0 run over the next two minutes to tie the game at 39. Lincoln held their final lead 46-45 at the 9:19 mark when Timothy McKenzie (Central Islip, NY/Central Islip HS) split a pair of free-throw attempts.

The Bulldogs found some much needed offense in the next eight minutes to build a seven point advantage with just over a minute left. Back-to-back layups by George Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor HS) and Timothy McKenzie (Central Islip, NY/Central Islip HS) cut the BSU lead to 62-58, but Lincoln missed a last second three-pointer as Bowie State held on for a close 63-60 victory.

 Timothy McKenzie (Central Islip, NY/Central Islip HS) went 7-for-9 from the field against Bowie State for a career-high night.  Jackson and senior guard Derrick Washington (Washington, DC/Coolidge SHS) both had ten points to lead the Lions bench.  Washington dished out four assists and made all four of his shots from the free-throw line.

Lincoln drops to 15-7 and 6-6 in the CIAA conference. Their next game is on Wednesday, February 12th against Elizabeth City State at home for their annual senior night.
