Smith’s 16 Powers Lady Lions Past Chestnut Hill, 79-67

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The women's basketball team at The Lincoln University moved remained undefeated with a convincing 79-67 win over Chestnut Hill College on Tuesday, November 18th in Manuel Rivero Hall. Junior Courtney Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet HS) led Lincoln with 16 points and tied a career-high with six rebounds against the Griffins.

The Lions made five shots from long range in the first half against Chestnut Hill behind Courtney Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet HS)'s four made three's. Smith had 12 early points as Lincoln shot 34% (15-43) from the field in the opening half and also dominated with 35 total rebounds to Chestnut Hill's 21. The Lions had 17 offensive rebounds controlling the interior, but gave up 13 points on 15 forced turnovers by the Griffins. A strong bench boosted the Lions with 22 first half points led by senior Zephrah Pam (Syracuse, NY/Monroe CC) along with freshmen Amber Cale (Middletown, DE/Appoquinimink HS) and Teira Pendleton (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Poly Institute). Pam had four points with seven rebounds while Pendleton had six points and Cale had four points with five rebounds. Chestnut Hill stayed in the game converting on 11-of-21 attempts from the free-throw but trailed Lincoln 36-33 at the half.

In the second half, Lincoln went on an 11-4 run increasing their lead to double-digits over Chestnut Hill in the first four minutes. Lincoln shot 71% (10-14) from the free-throw line and increased their defensive pressure forcing 10 turnovers. Senior Courtney Lucas (Washington, DC/Friendship Collegiate Academy) had three second half steals and Zephrah Pam (Syracuse, NY/Monroe CC) grabbed five rebounds pacing the Lions to their second victory of the season. Pam nailed a pair of free-throws with 12-minutes left springing Lincoln to their largest lead of the night (58-41), as the Lions went on to defeat Chestnut Hill, 79-67.

This is the first time since The Lincoln University became a Division II member, that the women's basketball team begins their season with a 2-0 record.

Courtney Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet HS) had a team-high 16 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Junior Lennee Kimbell dished out a game-high six assists and Zephrah Pam (Syracuse, NY/Monroe CC) recorded a season-high 12 rebounds. Five other Lions had eight points in their second non-conference home win of the season.

The Lions will hit the road on Thursday, November 20th at 7 p.m. for their third non-conference game against Wilmington University.
