Bulldogs Spoil Lions Football Senior Day, 28-7

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The Lions forced three Bulldog turnovers including a 45-yard interception for a touchdown by senior Tyahir Mitchell (Wilmington, DE/Howard HS), but Bowie State University spoiled Lincoln's Senior Day with a 28-7 win on Saturday, November 1st.

On the Bulldogs opening drive, sophomore defensive back Dezman Ellis (Bowie, MD/DeMatha Catholic HS) sparked the Lincoln defense with his second interception of the season and added a 29-yard return. Lincoln's offense took over and used a heavy dose of rushes from sophomore Stephen Scott (Baltimore, MD/Bethel College) gaining 40 yards off of four consecutive attempts leading the Lions into Bulldogs territory. Bowie State put an end to the Lincoln early momentum with an interception on fourth-and-long putting an end to a potential Lions score.

Bowie State capitalized off of the Lincoln turnover marching down the field for a touchdown. The Bulldogs scored on nine plays covering 74 yards and found the endzone on a 9-yard rush at the 6:24 mark in the first quarter. Trailing 7-0, Lincoln rallied behind Scott on three straight rushes but fell short of a first down and was forced to punt.

The defense of the Lions rose to the occasion with their second forced turnover of the quarter. Senior defensive back Tyahir Mitchell (Wilmington, DE/Howard HS) baited the Bulldogs quarterback into an interception and returned it for a 45-yard touchdown tying the game at, 7-7. That was Mitchell's first interception but second defensive touchdown of the season.

In the next quarter Bowie State regrouped and rushed for a 12-yard touchdown and tossed a 15-yard touchdown breaking out to a 21-7 advantage by halftime. Neither team scored in the third quarter but Bowie State spoiled Senior Day for the Lions with their third rushing touchdown at the beginning of the fourth quarter for a 28-7 lead.

Lincoln's offense struggled in the damp weather but their defense lifted the crowds' spirits with a third interception.
