LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – In a CIAA Northern Divisional battle against Virginia State, junior
Jillian Lee (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Poly Institute) tied a career-high posting 13 kills in a 3-1 (20-25, 25-16, 25-14, 29-27) loss for the Lions on Monday, October 6
th in Manuel Rivero Hall.
Lincoln got off to a quick start led by sophomore
Shanna King (Newark, NJ/University High School)'s three kills in the first set. The Trojans struggled with ten early errors while the Lions played solid defensively behind sophomore
Kyra Orton (Detroit, MI/Renaissance HS)'s six digs. The Lions took the first set 25-20 over the Trojans, but Virginia State responded in the next two sets combining for 21 kills and five errors. Lincoln's attack percentage declined with only 11 kills and suffered with 15 errors as VSU reclaimed the lead (2-1) with scores of 25-16 and 25-14 in the second and third sets.
In an exciting and competitive fourth set, junior
Jillian Lee (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Poly Institute) exploded for nine of Lincoln's 16 kills and also added a solo block. The teams were evenly matched with 11 ties and five lead changes but VSU pulled out a close 29-27 victory in the fourth set winning the match 3-1 over Lincoln.

Sydney Cook (Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) added 14 setting up majority of Lincoln's 30 team kills. Four Lions reached double-figures in defensive digs;
Kyra Orton (Detroit, MI/Renaissance HS) posted a game-high 33,
Sydney Cook (Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) had 20,
Ashanti Price (Upper Marlboro, MD/Bishop McNamara HS) had 17, and freshman
Soyini Hugget (Bear, DE/Del Castle HS) had 11.
Lincoln drops to 2-12 overall and 1-10 in CIAA play. The Lions will return to action on Sunday, October 12
th on the road against Elizabeth City State at 7p.m.
