Scott Rushes For School Record in 34-13 Loss to Fayetteville State

LINCOLN, Pa. – Sophomore running back Stephen Scott (Baltimore, MD/Bethel College) set a Lincoln rushing record with 24 total carries for 129 yards in a 34-13 loss to Fayetteville State at home on Saturday, October 4th. Scott also caught three passes for 16 yards tallying 145 all-purpose yards for the Lions.
 
The Broncos led 13-0 after their second rushing touchdown midway through the second quarter. Lincoln had a slow start offensively until senior wide receiver Anthony Green (Chester, PA/Upper Darby HS) and senior quarterback Doug Cook (Dania Beach, FL/University School of Nova SE University) hooked up for a 51-yard connection with 1:28 left before halftime. That was the Lions biggest play of the game against the Broncos setting up on the FSU 29-yard line. Cook scrambled for another five yards on the next play and then found sophomore wide receiver Larquise Hobbs (Lansing, MI/J.W. Sexton HS) on a slant for a 24-yard touchdown, cutting into the FSU lead 13-7.
 
Lincoln rushed for 50-yards in the first half and completed 9-of-14 attempts for 125 yards. The defense forced a turnover sparked by junior defensive back Brion Robinson (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook HS)'s forced fumble and senior defensive back Jacob Lockley (Philadelphia, PA/Mastbaum Vo-Tech)'s recovery at the end of the first quarter. Fayetteville State held a slight 13-7 lead at halftime.
 
In the third quarter, Fayetteville State added on two more touchdowns to extend their lead. The Broncos scored on a 17-yard pass at the 6:32 mark and then as time expired at the end of the quarter with a 15-yard rushing touchdown. Lincoln trailed 27-7 heading into the final quarter.
 
On the ensuing possession Doug Cook (Dania Beach, FL/University School of Nova SE University) and Stephen Scott (Baltimore, MD/Bethel College) led the Lions down on an 11-play, 75 yard touchdown drive at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Cook completed passes to Hobbs and senior wide receiver Akeem Jordan (Washington, DC/Carroll HS) while Scott added 26 rushing yards rallying the Lions to the FSU 4-yard line. On fourth and goal Cook tossed his second touchdown of the afternoon to Jordan at the 10:47 mark. Doug Cook (Dania Beach, FL/University School of Nova SE University) has nine passing touchdowns and Akeem Jordan (Washington, DC/Carroll HS) has five receiving touchdowns leading the Lions scoring through five games.
 
Fayetteville State responded with a 29-yard touchdown and then held Lincoln out of the endzone for the rest of the quarter, sealing a 34-13 road victory.
 
Running back Stephen Scott (Baltimore, MD/Bethel College) became the second Lions to rush for 100+ yards in a single game since 2008. The last time a Lion rushed for over 100 yards in a game was D'Ante Smith (114) at Livingstone in 2009.  He set a school-best record of 129 total rushing yards averaging 5.4 yards per carry. Scott also caught a season-best three receptions for 16 yards.
 
Quarterback Doug Cook (Dania Beach, FL/University School of Nova SE University) completed 16-of-29 pass attempts to five different receivers for 199 yards. Larquise Hobbs (Lansing, MI/J.W. Sexton HS) led the Lions with five receptions for 55 yards and a touchdown followed by Anthony Green (Chester, PA/Upper Darby HS)'s four catches for 82 yards, and Akeem Jordan (Washington, DC/Carroll HS)'s three catches for 42 yards and a touchdown.
Defensive back Brion Robinson (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook HS) had a game-best 13 tackles including 11 solo tackles and a forced fumble. In his first game of the season, senior defensive back Elijah Douglas (Philadelphia, PA/George Washington HS) had nine tackles along with senior linebacker Gavin Lampkin (Baltimore, Md./W.E.B. Dubois HS), and sophomore linebacker Wadel Louis (Miami, FL/North Miami Beach HS).
The Lions fall to 1-4, 0-2 in CIAA play. Lincoln will travel to Richmond, VA on Saturday, October 11th for a showdown with Virginia Union University at 1 p.m.
