Box Score Lincoln University, PA - The Lincoln University men's basketball team pulled out a dramatic 71-69 overtime win against Shaw University. Senior guard
George Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor HS) scored a team-high 17 points helping guide Lincoln to victory.
In the opening three and a half minutes of the game, Lincoln jumped out to a 14-3 lead.
Shaw avoided having their deficit build any larger as they went into halftime down 39-30.
The Lions didn't get off to as good a start in the second half, as Shaw chopped down the lead to just two with less than eight minutes left.
Shaw remained persistent and tied the game at 57 with just over four minutes left.
Within the next 58 seconds,
George Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor HS) converted two layups to retake a four-point lead in Lincoln's favor.
With 1:44 left, Shaw hit a layup to make it a two-point game. Moments later the Bears knocked down two free-throws to retie the game. The teams then traded layups to knot the score up once again at 63 with 28 seconds left.
Following a Lincoln timeout, Jackson drove to the rim for a layup attempt that came up short and sent the game into overtime as the regulation buzzer sounded.
Neither team led by more than two points throughout the extra period. Shaw's final lead, however, occurred after a fast-break layup in result of a turnover by senior guard
Derrick Washington (Washington, DC/Coolidge SHS) with 1:08 remaining in the game.
Moments later, Lincoln decided to put the ball back in Washington's hands. He responded by crossing over his defender and driving left to make a game tying layup with 47 seconds to go.
On the very next play, Jackson came up with a huge steal and took it the other way before getting fouled with 17 seconds on the clock. Lincoln reclaimed the lead after he sank both of his free-throws, making the score 71-69 with eight seconds left in overtime.
Shaw then inbounded and dribbled up the court for eight seconds before calling a timeout. The play after the resulted in a missed jumper at the buzzer and the Lions came out victorious.
George Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor HS) finished the game with three assists and three steals to go along with his 17 points. He also shot 53 percent from the floor.
Derrick Washington (Washington, DC/Coolidge SHS) finished 12 as well as five assists off of the bench.
Junior forward
Tony Efese (Spring Valley, NY/St. Joseph Regional HS) scored 15 points on a super-efficient 71 percent from the field, including two three-pointers. He grabbed six rebounds as well.
Senior Guard
Justin Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor HS) also chipped in 11 points.
With this victory the Lions improve to 12-3 on the season and a 9-0 record at home. They are currently on a three-game winning streak. Their next game will take place on Saturday, January 18th at home against conference rival Bowie State University at 4:00 pm.
