Battle of the First Results
CHEYNEY, Pa. – The Lincoln University men's track and field teams were in action on Thursday afternoon as the Lions fell in the annual rivalry Battle of the First Dual meet to Cheyney, 58-40, at O'Shields-Stevenson Stadium.
“Our men come up short against our rival Cheyney due to a few injuries and lack of focus,” Lincoln head coach Rafeal “Ray” Williams said. “However, we had some great performances both on the track and in the field. We are looking in bring a higher level of focus next week at the CIAA Championships.”
The 4x100 Relay team of
Abraham Noel (North Lauderdale, Fla./Fort Lauderdale HS),
Asaad Monroe (Wilmington, DE/Delcastle Technical HS),
Eddie Jones (Cleveland, OH/Warrenville HS) and
Miles Green (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) stormed past Cheyney to claim the win in 41.42. and became an NCAA Division II and ECAC/IC4A Provisional Qualifier.
Matthew Huckabee (Erial, N.J./Timber Creek HS) set the school record in the Shot Put with a throw of 16.67 Meters and earned his first trip to the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships.
Also capturing first place at the Battle of the First were:
Kyle Edwards (Bloomfield, CT/Bloomfield HS) (1,500 Meters),
Eddie Jones (Cleveland, OH/Warrenville HS) (400 Meters) and
Kemoi Charles (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands/Charlotte Amalie HS) (400 Hurdles).
Lincoln will be in Baltimore, Md., on Saturday, April 13 at Coppin State University to participate in the Don Webster Invitational.
