Box Score 2 RICHMOND, Va. – The Lincoln University softball team opened play at the CIAA Roundup with a pair of losses on Saturday at Parker Field as the Lady Lions fell 12-0 to Winston-Salem State in five innings and 13-3 to Johnson C. Smith in five innings.
In the opening game of the day against Winston-Salem State, the Lady Rams scored three in the first inning, three in the third, four in the fourth and two in the fifth for a 12-0 win in five innings.
Offensively,
Avree Morton (Uniondale, N.Y./Holy Trinity HS),
Toni Smith (New Castle, DE/William Penn HS) and
Mariah Coates (Reading, Pa./Reading HS) collected one hit each.
Erin Rucker (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights HS) (2-2) took the loss in pitching five innings. She surrendered 12 runs (eight earned) on nine hits with five strikeouts and six walks.
Monet Daly (2-0) picked up the win as she fanned nine and walked one in five innings.
Against Johnson C. Smith, the Golden Bulls raced out to a 4-0 lead after scoring one in the first inning, three in the second and one in the third for a 5-0 advantage.
Lincoln (2-2 overall, 0-2 CIAA) closed the gap to 5-3 in the bottom of the frame as Rucker stroked a two-out double to bring in
Jasmine Dabney (Baltimore, Md./New Town HS) and
Emily Woodruff (San Diego, CA/Madison HS). Morton followed with a double down the line in left to score Rucker.
Johnson C. Smith answered in the top half of the fourth with a pair of runs to take a 7-3 lead and put the game away in the fifth with a six-run fifth.
Rucker paced the Lady Lions offense by going 2-for-2. Woodruff and Morton each collected a hit.
Rucker took the loss as she surrendered seven runs (six earned) on nine hits with six walks and one strikeout.
Danielle Owes (Edgewater Park, N.J./Burlington County Institute of Technology) pitched an inning in relief.
Melissa Vierra (4-1) earned the victory in five innings as she gave up three runs on six hits.
The Lady Lions conclude play at the CIAA Roundup 11 a.m., Sunday, March 10 at Parker Field against Livingstone College.
