Johnson’s Double-Double Falls Short Against UMES, 73-61

Box Score Princess Anne, MD – Cynthia Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, but the Lions fell to University of Maryland Eastern Shore 73-61 on Tuesday, November 26.
 
Cynthia Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) made six shots from the field and another six from the free-throw line to lead the Lions with 19 points. Johnson did a great job on defense with eight rebounds and three steals.
 
Jailen Murphy (Nashville, TN/Brentwood Academy) led the LU bench with nine points. Murphy was a perfect 4-4 from the free-throw line as the Lions combined for 58% shooting from the charity stripe.
 
Defensively, Lincoln forced UMES into 29 turnovers. The Lions scored 18 points off turnovers and made five three-pointers. Lisa Saunders (Hampton, VA/Hampton HS) made two three's for the Lions while Cynthia Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute), Courtney Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet HS), and Jailen Murphy (Nashville, TN/Brentwood Academy) each made one three-pointer.
 
Courtney Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet HS) recorded six steals to lead the defense for the Lions. Mieana Gaines (Lincoln Park, MI/Southfield University Academy) had two blocks and De'jah Taylor (Nanuet, NY/Paramus Catholic Regional) had one block.
 
UMES led 40-31 at the half on 43% shooting from the field against Lincoln. The Lions were the aggressors in the second half getting to the free-throw line 21 times, but the Hawks were able to hold off the Lions for a 71-63 victory.
 
The Lincoln University women's basketball teams falls to 3-2 overall. The Lions will host Cheyney University on Saturday, November 30 in Manuel Rivero Hall.
