Jordan Tallies Season-High 153 Yards Receiving Against Bowie State

Box Score Bowie, MD – Wide receiver Akeem Jordan (Washington, DC/Carroll HS) finished with a season-high 153 yards receiving and also caught a season-long 74-yard pass from quarterback Doug Cook (Dania Beach, FL/University School of Nova SE University), but the Lions fell to Bowie State 76-19 on Saturday, November 2.

Return specialist Lorenzo Adams (Philadelphia, PA/George Washington HS) returned the opening kick for a huge 59-yard gain setting up the Lions on the Bulldogs 22-yard line. Bowie State held the Lions for three consecutive plays setting up 4th down, then blocked the 30-yard field goal attempt and returned the blocked kick for a 70-yard touchdown. The point after kick attempt was good and the Bulldogs led early, 7-0.

The Lions returned to the field led by quarterback Doug Cook (Dania Beach, FL/University School of Nova SE University) at the 13:03 mark in the first quarter. From their own 13-yard line, the Lions marched down the field with one play to the Bulldogs 13-yard line behind Doug Cook (Dania Beach, FL/University School of Nova SE University) and wide receiver Akeem Jordan (Washington, DC/Carroll HS). The duo hooked up for a 74-yard completion and two plays later they returned for a 13-yard touchdown pass and catch. The point after attempt failed and the Lions trailed 7-6 with 11:34 remaining in the opening quarter.

The 74-yard pass from Cook to Jordan was the Lions longest reception of the season. On that drive, Jordan also recorded his 12th touchdown reception of the season, as he leads the CIAA.

Bowie State added two touchdowns extending their lead to 17-6, in the final minute of the first quarter. Doug Cook (Dania Beach, FL/University School of Nova SE University) and the Lions offense went 65-yards in 10 plays for their second score of the game. Cook completed three consecutive passes for a total of 42-yards to wide receiver Larquise Hobbs (Lansing, MI/J.W. Sexton HS) and his fourth pass of the drive was an 8-yard touchdown reception to wide receiver Anthony Green (Chester, PA/Upper Darby HS). Kicker Kyle Jaski (Escondido, Calif./Kenwood HS)'s extra point attempt was good as the Lions cut into the Bulldogs lead, 17-13.

In the second quarter, Bowie State dominated forcing the Lions into three turnovers and adding on 35 points. The Bulldogs took a 52-13 lead at the half over the Lions.

The Bulldogs continued to score adding 24 second half points. The Lions closed the game on a positive note after a huge play on defense, led their offense to their third touchdown. Defensive back Dezman Ellis (Bowie, MD/DeMatha Catholic HS) forced and recovered a fumble setting up the Lions on their own 41-yard line with 2:22 left in the game.

Doug Cook (Dania Beach, FL/University School of Nova SE University) completed three passes for 39-yards on the Lions final drive. He found Akeem Jordan (Washington, DC/Carroll HS) twice for first downs and Anthony Green (Chester, PA/Upper Darby HS) for 6-yards. The Lions marched their way down to the Bulldogs 4-yard line with 11 seconds left and called a final play to surprise the Bowie State defense.

Doug Cook (Dania Beach, FL/University School of Nova SE University) and Steven Gilliam (Bowie, MD/Bowie HS) ran the famous "Statue of Liberty" play for a 4-yard rushing touchdown by Gilliam. Steven Gilliam (Bowie, MD/Bowie HS) scored the Lions second rushing touchdown of the season and the first of his career. The extra point attempt failed and the game ended with a 76-19 final score.

The Lions offense passed for 237 total yards and scored two touchdowns while the rushing attack added 30 total yards and one rushing touchdown. Doug Cook (Dania Beach, FL/University School of Nova SE University) completed 20-of-41 pass attempts for 232 yards with two touchdowns. Akeem Jordan (Washington, DC/Carroll HS) led the receivers with nine catches for 153 yards. Jordan recorded a season-high yards receiving total against the Bulldogs and scored his 12th touchdown catch of the season. Larquise Hobbs (Lansing, MI/J.W. Sexton HS) caught five passes for 47 yards and Anthony Green (Chester, PA/Upper Darby HS) had three catches for 23 yards and his second touchdown reception of the season.

Steven Gilliam (Bowie, MD/Bowie HS) led the running backs with 37 yards and a touchdown. Khari Nguzi had four rushes for 23 yards and Asher Watlington (Amityville, NY/Amityville HS) had one rush for three yards.

Kicker/punter Kyle Jaski (Escondido, Calif./Kenwood HS) recorded seven punts for 304 total yards. He averaged 43.4 yards per punt, had one punt inside the 20-yard line, and had a 58-yard punt his longest of the afternoon. Return specialist Lorenzo Adams (Philadelphia, PA/George Washington HS) had eight kick returns for 182 yards. Adams recorded the Lions longest return of the season of 59-yards against the Bulldogs.

Two Lions led the defense with ten tackles each. Defensive back Tyahir Mitchell (Wilmington, DE/Howard HS) had eight solo tackles with two assisted and linebacker Gavin Lampkin (Baltimore, Md./W.E.B. Dubois HS) had three solo tackles and seven assisted. Linebacker Wadel Louis (Miami, FL/North Miami Beach HS) added eight tackles and defensive back Brion Robinson (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook HS) had six tackles. Defensive back Dezman Ellis (Bowie, MD/DeMatha Catholic HS) had three tackles, two pass breakups, and a key forced fumble to setup the Lions for their third touchdown.

The Lions drop to 1-8 and will host Chowan University on November 9, at 1 p.m. in their final home game of the season.
