Box Score Bloomsburg, Pa – The Lions battled the Huskies of Bloomsburg University into a double overtime thriller, but the Huskies pulled away late to down the Lions 89-79 on Saturday, November 16. Bloomsburg outscored Lincoln 21-11 in the second period of overtime.
Lincoln controlled the pace between the teams throughout the majority of the game. But a nine point lead (50-41) with 9:21 left in the game was not enough to hold off the Huskies at home. Bloomsburg fought back and hit two free-throws with 15 second left sending the game into overtime.
In the first overtime,
Derrick Washington (Washington, DC/Coolidge SHS) scored five of Lincoln's seven points carrying the offensive load. Bloomsburg tied the game at 68-68 at the 1:49 mark in overtime. Late turnovers in the final minute by both teams forced a second overtime for the squads.
In the final overtime period, Bloomsburg made 16 free-throws and pulled away late to defeat Lincoln, 89-79. The Lions sent the Huskies to the free-throw line for 20 combined attempts in both overtime periods.
The Lions made 10 three-pointers against the Huskies and recorded 17 assists. Lincoln also outscored Bloomsburg 32-16 on points in the paint, but sent the Huskies to the free-throw line for 55 attempts. Bloomsburg's Dontahe Jordan scored a game-high 34 points to lead his team to victory.
Four Lions scored in double figures led by
Justin Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor HS)'s 20 points and five rebounds. He was 4-9 from three-point land and grabbed three offensive rebounds.
George Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor HS) added 17 points, three assists, and three steals. He was 5-8 from the free-throw line and went 2-3 from behind the three-point line.
Tony Efese (Spring Valley, NY/St. Joseph Regional HS) had his best game as a Lion with 12 points against the Huskies. Efese went 4-5 from three-point range and dished out five assists.
Derrick Washington (Washington, DC/Coolidge SHS) paced the Lions with a game-high six assists and added 12 points to lead the bench scoring.
Chris Kinney (Washington, DC/Theodore Roosevelt SHS) and
Will Cole (Newark, NJ/Cesar Chavez HS) had six rebounds each while
Stefan Whittingham (Fort Lauderdale, FL/Fort Lauderdale HS) had five rebounds.
The Lincoln University men's basketball team falls to 1-1 after their loss to Bloomsburg. The Lions return to action on Tuesday, November 23 against University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, PA at 8 p.m.
