Doug Cook (Dania Beach, FL/University School of Nova SE University) completed 28 passes for 294 yards with two touchdowns, but the Lions loss to Virginia State 34-14 on Homecoming 2013.
The Lincoln University's football team collected season-highs with 28 completions on 47 pass attempts for 294 passing yards. The Lions also tallied 20 first downs against the Trojans defense in front of a packed Homecoming crowd.
After VSU sprung out to an early 7-0 lead on their first possession, the Lions scored their first touchdown on their third possession with an eight play, 80-yard drive led by
Doug Cook (Dania Beach, FL/University School of Nova SE University).
The drive featured a dual attack of

John Taggart (Philadelphia, PA/Wilmington Friends School) on seven rush attempts against the Trojans. Cook had 14 yards while Taggart added 12 yards rushing for the Lions offense. Cook went a perfect two for two through the air on that drive. Wide receiver
Akeem Jordan (Washington, DC/Carroll HS) caught a 9-yard pass for a first down and
Anthony Green (Chester, PA/Upper Darby HS) caught a 34-yard pass for a touchdown at the beginning of the second quarter. Cook and Green hooked up for the Lions touchdown, but Lincoln failed on the point after attempt and trailed 7-6.
Lincoln struggled throughout the rest of the second quarter with a fumble, punt, and a missed field goal after their score. The Trojans recovered the fumble for a 71-yard defensive touchdown and a 14-6 lead.
The Lions gathered 146 total yards against the Trojans by the half. Lincoln was 5 of 10 on third downs and had 18 minutes of possession compared to 11 minutes by VSU, but a fumble recovery for a touchdown gave the Trojans the advantage at the half.
Virginia State scored 21 unanswered points in the second half breaking out to a 34-6 lead. Cook completed 8-of-8 pass attempts for 59 yards in the third quarter.
Anthony Green (Chester, PA/Upper Darby HS) led the wide outs with three catches for 26 yards, while
Akeem Jordan (Washington, DC/Carroll HS) also caught three passes for 17 yards, and Steve Morris had two catches for 16 yards.
In the fourth quarter,
Doug Cook (Dania Beach, FL/University School of Nova SE University) continued the aerial assault on the Virginia State defense. Cook was 11 of 21 for 135 passing yards in the fourth quarter alone.
Akeem Jordan (Washington, DC/Carroll HS) caught four passes for 34 yards,
Kenny Faulcon (Aberdeen, MD/Aberdeen HS) added three catches for 53 yards,
Anthony Green (Chester, PA/Upper Darby HS) caught two passes for 24 yards and Steve Morris also caught two passes for 24 yards.
With 7:45 remaining in the game, the Lions began their drive on their own 32 yard line. On third down and 20 yards to go,
Doug Cook (Dania Beach, FL/University School of Nova SE University) completed a 40-yard first down pass to
Kenny Faulcon (Aberdeen, MD/Aberdeen HS) setting up the Lions with first and goal from the 3-yard line. Cook finally found
Akeem Jordan (Washington, DC/Carroll HS) on a fade route on fourth down for a 4-yard touchdown. The Lions were successful on the extra point as
Doug Cook (Dania Beach, FL/University School of Nova SE University) threw a two-point conversion pass to
Kenny Faulcon (Aberdeen, MD/Aberdeen HS).
Virginia State ran out the clock with 3:35 left in the game and held on to a 34-14 win. The Trojans remain undefeated in CIAA play while the Lions are still searching for their first CIAA victory.

Akeem Jordan (Washington, DC/Carroll HS) caught a season-best 12 receptions for 95 yards and one touchdown.
Anthony Green (Chester, PA/Upper Darby HS) finished with six catches for 84 yards and a touchdown while
Kenny Faulcon (Aberdeen, MD/Aberdeen HS) caught five passes for 70 yards. Running back
Steven Gilliam (Bowie, MD/Bowie HS) collected 22 rushing yards and
John Taggart (Philadelphia, PA/Wilmington Friends School) had 13 yards on the ground.
Defensively,
Gavin Lampkin (Baltimore, Md./W.E.B. Dubois HS) led the Lions with nine total tackles. Lampkin had eight solo tackles, one assisted tackle, and a sack on the Virginia State quarterback.
Elijah Douglas (Philadelphia, PA/George Washington HS), Jr. followed with seven solo tackles and
Dawan Marzett (Los Angeles, CA/Westchester HS) had six solo tackles. The Lions defense recorded three sacks on Homecoming.
Gavin Lampkin (Baltimore, Md./W.E.B. Dubois HS),
Wadel Louis (Miami, FL/North Miami Beach HS), and
Brion Robinson (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook HS) all had sacks for the Lions.
