Tara O'Brien (Twickenham London, UK/St. Mark's Catholic School) scored a goal while
Alanna Van Ness (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway HS) netted the other goal for the Lions.
After a fine start to the weekend at Chowan, Lincoln failed to add Mount Olive College to their list of victims. Ellie Barnes and Alex Wetherholt led Mount Olive to a two-goal lead less than six minutes into the match and the Trojans went on to a 7-2 victory over Lincoln at Amon Field.
Mount Olive's Jaclyn Thomas scored two goals and an assist, while Maddy Robak and Rae Williams added two assists apiece to spark the Trojans to their first win of the season.
Match time was originally scheduled for 1 p.m., but had to be pushed back three hours due to wet field conditions caused by heavy rain that fell overnight and Sunday morning.
Mount Olive (1-4-1) got on the scoreboard 95 seconds into the match as Alex Wetherholt's cross from the left side went off the Lincoln keeper and Barnes put the ball home inside the right post. Wetherholt followed with a goal of her own at the 5:30 mark after capturing a deflection at the top of the box to give the Trojans a 2-0 advantage.
Lincoln (2-2-1) spoiled Mount Olive's shutout bid at 16:12 when
Tara O'Brien (Twickenham London, UK/St. Mark's Catholic School) converted a penalty kick. The Trojans were called for a foul in the box on a tackling from behind call on
Christian Harris (Rochester, NY/The Aquinas Institute) as the Lions pulled within, 2-1.
Mount Olive responded as Robak recorded the first of her two assists with a service into the top right of the box. Lincoln keeper
Chloe Grice (Lancashire, UK/Runshaw HS) challenged, but Damilia Brooks was able to loft the ball over Grice to extend the Trojans' lead to 3-1 at 28:07.
Thomas notched her first goal of the match at 36:30 after taking a service from Williams and carrying the ball to the top. Thomas blasted a shot over the keeper and Mount Olive went into halftime with a 4-1 lead.
The Trojans continued to add to their lead in the second half as Carlee Bock scored from the top of the box after a scramble for the ball to make it a 5-1 score at 51:20. Brooks and Robak were credited with a double assist.
Thomas scored her second goal of the match on a one-touch in front of the right post off a cross from Williams in the 67th minute. Thomas assisted on the Trojans' final goal with a cross from the right to Lauren Power, who scored from in front of the left post to give Mount Olive a 7-1 lead.
Lincoln closed out the scoring with a buzzer-beater goal as
Alanna Van Ness (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway HS)' 25-yard non-drop volley zoomed into the upper corner of the net in what could be the goal of the season.
The Lady Lions will march onto the field again on Wednesday, September 25 to welcome Salem International. Game time is 2pm.
