George Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor HS) tied a career-high with 26 points as the Lincoln University men's basketball team got back into the win column on Wednesday night with a 74-62 victory over Chowan in a CIAA Northern Division game at the Helms Center.
Jackson scored 11 of his game-high 26 points in the first half to lead the Lions (11-8 overall, 4-6 CIAA, 2-2 CIAA North). Jackson was 7-of-10 from the floor and 9-of-10 from the free-throw line, while also tying a career-high with four steals.
Kenny Sharpe (Chester, Pa./Elite Academy) scored 14 points and
Derrick Washington (Washington, DC/Coolidge SHS) had 12 as Lincoln was 22-of-46 shooting for 48 percent.
Lincoln got out to a fast start, 10-5, after a
Beloved Rogers (Baltimore, Md./Princeton Day Academy) 3-pointer with 16:11 remaining, but Chowan kept the contest close and took an 18-16 advantage after a Rickey Lamb 3-pointer with 10.11 left.
The Hawks (5-13, 0-10, 0-4) extended the margin to 24-20 with 6:26 left after a 3-pointer by Kyree Bethel, but the Lions dominated the final six minutes with a 12-5 run to take a 32-29 advantage into the break.
Lincoln extended the margin to 49-38 after a
George Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor HS) 3-pointer with 11:25 left. Chowan cut the double-digit deficit to 63-56 after a Quinton McDuffie layup with 2:45 remaining, but that was as close as the Hawks would get as the Lions got buckets down the stretch by Washington,
George Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor HS),
Stefan Whittingham (Fort Lauderdale, FL/Fort Lauderdale HS) and Sharpe to seal the win.
McDuffie paced the Hawks with 16 points and eight rebounds. Lamb added 11 as Chowan shot 38 percent (21-of-55).
