Lincoln can't slow down hot-shooting Shaw

Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. – The Lincoln University men's basketball team couldn't slow down Shaw on Monday night as the Lions fell, 91-58, in a CIAA contest at C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
 
Justin Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor HS), who tied a career high with three 3-pointers, had 10 points to pace the Lincoln offense. Kenny Sharpe (Chester, Pa./Elite Academy) added nine points on the bench and Derrick Washington (Washington, DC/Coolidge SHS) finished with seven points as the Lions (9-6 overall, 2-4 CIAA) were 20-of-67 shooting for 30 percent.
 
Shaw (12-4, 6-0), which shot 70 percent from the field, opened the game strong and took a 21-6 advantage after a Curtis Hines 3-pointer with a little more than 11 minutes remaining in the first half. The Lions closed the gap to 29-16 after a Kenny Sharpe (Chester, Pa./Elite Academy) 3-pointer with 6:19 left, but the Bears ended the half on a 14-3 run to take a 43-19 lead into the break.
 
Lincoln tried to battle back in the second half, but got no closer than 18 points in falling to the Bears.
 
Karron Johnson led four Shaw players in double figures with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Hines also added 19 points on 6-of-7 shooting, including five 3-pointers. Derrick Hunter scored 17 points and Junius Chayney had 10 points as the Bears were 33-of-47 from the floor.  
 
The Lions conclude their four-game road trip with a 4 p.m., contest against Bowie State University on Saturday, Jan. 19 in the CIAA Northern Division opener at A.C. Jordan Arena. To follow the action through live stats, click here or live video, click here.
