THE EVENT: The Lincoln University Lions and the Cheyney University Wolves meet for the 13th time in the historic Battle of the First contest. This will be the first time in more than 60 years that Lincoln will play collegiate football on campus. The first four years since bringing the program back in 2008, Lincoln played its home games at Avon Grove High School. The Lions will look to avenge a 21-19 defeat last season at Cheyney as the Wolves won for the first time in the series.

Lincoln finished fifth last season in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Northern Division with a 2-8 overall record.  The Wolves concluded their 2011 campaign at 1-10 overall and finished last in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division.

Lincoln's head coach Olabaniji “O.J.” Abanishe enters his fifth season with a 7-32 overall record.

On offense, the Lions, who return 10 starters from a year ago, are led by 2011 All-CIAA rookie team quarterback Doug Cook (Dania Beach, FL/University School of Nova SE University), 2011 All-CIAA rookie team offensive lineman Daniel Mammah (Lansing, Mich./J.W. Sexton HS), and 2011 All-CIAA second team wide receiver Matthew Coston (Queens, N.Y./Dover HS).

Defensively, the Lions, who return seven of the 11 starters from last season, are navigated by 2011 All-American defensive end Tim Green (Fanwood, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood HS), who was the 2011 NCAA Division II statistical leader in sacks with 17. Lincoln looks to refuel at the linebacker position with the loss of Daron Jones (Baltimore, Md./Cardinal Gibbons HS) (First-Team All-CIAA), Brucelee Sterile (Miami, Fla./North Miami Beach HS) and Brandon McElwee (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City Junior and Senior HS) (First-Team All-CIAA).

Kenneth Lockard begins his second season as the Wolves head coach with a 1-10 overall record.

The Wolves entire starting offensive line will return and continue to provide blocking for two-time All-PSAC East running back Marcus Jones.  A Washington, D.C. native, Jones carried the ball 275 times in his first two years at Cheyney and was only tackled for a combined loss of 10 yards while gaining over 1,500.

THE SERIES: Lincoln leads the all-time series, 10-1-1. However, Cheyney picked up its first win in the series last season, 21-19.
