Lincoln's home opener spoiled by Goldey-Beacom

OXFORD, Pa. – The Lincoln University softball team had its 2012 home opener spoiled by Golden-Beacom on Wednesday afternoon as the Lady Lions were swept in a doubleheader, 18-0 and 16-0 at Old Gold Field at the Oxford Athletic Association Sports Complex.
 
In the opener, Goldey-Beacom (9-4) broke open a 4-0 advantage by exploding for 10 runs in the fourth inning and didn't look back.
 
Erin Rucker (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights HS), who went 1-for-1 at the plate, took the loss in pitching five innings. She surrendered 18runs (16 earned) on 18 hits with seven walks and three strikeouts.
 
In the second game, the Lightning used a six-run first inning and added two runs in the second, four in the fourth and four in the fifth inning to get the win.
 
Rucker, who was 1-for-2 at the plate, pitched three innings to earn the loss. She gave up eight runs (one earned) on six hits with a pair of walks. Danielle Owes (Edgewater Park, N.J./Burlington County Institute of Technology), who also had one hit at the plate, worked the final two innings in relief.
 
Lincoln (0-8) returns to action with a 2 p.m., CIAA Northern Division doubleheader against Elizabeth City State University on Friday, March 16 at the Old Gold Field at the Oxford Athletic Association Sports Complex.
