PETERSBURG, Va. – The Lincoln University women's tennis team split a pair of matches on Saturday in the CIAA Round-up as the Lady Lions defeated Saint Augustine's, 6-3, but fell to Fayetteville State, 6-3, and 9-0 to Shaw.
Against Saint Augustine's, Lincoln (1-2) swept all three doubles matches.
The team of
Leslie Reid-Bey (Sickelerville, N.J./Winslow Township HS) and
Uniquewa Rogers (Trenton, N.J./Pennsbury HS) beat Minyan Murphy and Kenishea Donald, 9-7, while
Shari Davis (Clinton, Md./Gwynn Park HS) and
Destiny Sample (/) beat Roxanne Smith and Ebony Spencer, 8-0.
Sharmaine Henderson (Sacramento, Calif./Pleasant Grove HS) and
Sherlina Holland (Baltimore, Md./Northwestern HS) won by forfeit in the third doubles match.
In singles play, Murphy defeated Reid-Bey, 6-0, 6-0 and Donaldson topped Rogers, 6-0, 6-2. Davis fell to Smith, 6-4, 4-6, 10-8, but the Lady Lions took the final three singles matches as Sample, Holland and Henderson captured wins.
Against Fayetteville State, the Lady Broncos took two of three in doubles play as Reid-Bey and Henderson won by forfeit.
In singles play, Sample and Holland earned wins.
Against Shaw, the Lady Lions dropped all three doubles matches and the six singles matches to lose to the Lady Bears, 9-0.
Lincoln returns to action March 16-18 in Charlotte, N.C., at the CIAA Cross Divisional Round-up.
