Box Score ETTRICK, Va. – The Lincoln University men's basketball team couldn't slow down Virginia State as the Lions fell, 75-51, on Monday night in a CIAA Northern Division contest at Daniel Gym.
Denzel Mooney (Baltimore, Md./Western School of Technology) paced Lincoln (11-16 overall, 6-10 CIAA, 4-6 CIAA Northern) with 17 points on 6-of-19 shooting. He also added seven rebounds and one assist.
Kenny Sharpe (Chester, Pa./Elite Academy) had 16 points and seven boards as the Lions, who locked up the No. 5 seed in next week's CIAA Tournament, went 17-of-61 from the floor for 28 percent.
Lincoln trailed 17-15 after a Mooney 3-pointer with 7:11 remaining in the first half, but the Trojans ended the first half on a 13-6 run to take a 30-21 advantage into the break.
Virginia State (8-17, 7-8, 4-5) out-scored Lincoln in the second half, 45-30, to get the win.
Mike Bynum led four Trojan players in double figures with 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Daniel Awosanya had 13 points and six rebounds. Ibn Rassoull and Kenny Mitchell each had 12 points as Virginia State shot 51 percent (26-of-51) from the field.
Lincoln concludes the regular season with Senior Night at 7 p.m., on Thursday, Feb. 23 at Manuel Rivero Hall in a non-conference game against Washington Adventist.
