Lions drop CIAA Northern Division opener to Virginia Union

Box Score RICHMOND, Va. – The Lincoln University football team couldn't recover from an early first-quarter deficit as the Lions dropped a 61-13 decision to Virginia Union University on Saturday afternoon in the CIAA Northern Division opener at Hovey Field.
 
Lincoln (1-5 overall, 1-2 CIAA) fell behind 7-3 after Kyle Jaski (Escondido, Calif./Kenwood HS) booted a 25-yard field goal with 10:21 remaining in the opening quarter and trailed 24-6 at the half as Jaski hit a career-long 42-long field goal as time expired to conclude the first half.
 
Brakeem Jackson (Philadelphia, Pa./University City HS) returned a fumble 37 yards for a touchdown to cut the deficit to 48-13 with 10 minutes left in the third quarter, but the Lions couldn't get any closer.
 
Doug Cook (Dania Beach, FL/University School of Nova SE University) was 25-of-51 passing for 154 yards and Gerald Swain (Burlington Township, N.J./Burlington Township HS) paced the ground game with 33 yards on nine carries. Matt Coston had 51 yards on eight catches and Philip Jean-Juste (Miami, Fla. /North Miami Beach HS) added seven receptions for 40 yards. Defensively, Michael Adjei (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge HS) and Brion Robinson (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook HS) each had nine tackles.

Lincoln returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 13 against Elizabeth City State University for Health & Wellness Day at Lincoln University Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
