Lions look for second straight victory against Virginia Union

Lincoln gears up to open CIAA Northern Division play against Virginia Union
LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The Lincoln University football team seeks its second consecutive victory over Virginia Union as CIAA Northern Division play begins on Saturday in Richmond, Va.

THE EVENT: Lincoln rallied from a 14-0 deficit in the first half against Johnson C. Smith as the Lions outlasted the Golden Bulls, 55-53, last weekend. Meanwhile, Virginia Union is coming off a 23-21 loss to Livingstone.
 
The Lions are seeking its second straight win the series and the last time that happened was 1948 and 1949.
 
Doug Cook (Dania Beach, FL/University School of Nova SE University) has thrown for 1,281 yards and 10 touchdowns on 111-of-189 passing to pace the air attack. Philip Jean-Juste (Miami, Fla. /North Miami Beach HS) leads 13 different receivers with 43 catches for 377 yards. Matt Coston has 30 receptions for 386 yards. Gerald Swain (Burlington Township, N.J./Burlington Township HS) leads the ground game and just missed his first 100-yard game against Johnson C. Smith with 251 yards on 71 carries.
 
Defensively, Tim Green (Fanwood, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood HS) continues to be the top tackler with 49, including 41 solo stops. He has 11 quarterback hurries and five sacks. Brion Robinson (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook HS) and Xavier Freeman (Linden, N.J./Linden HS) each have 30 and 25 tackles, respectively.
 
THE SERIES: Virginia Union leads the series, 26-10-2.
 
LAST MEETING: Lincoln defeated Virginia Union, 19-10, last season at Avon Grove High School in West Grove, Pa.
