THE EVENT: The Lions are looking to rebound off a 45-9 loss last week to Bowie State at home, while the Hawks come into the game riding some momentum after knocking off Virginia State, 33-21.

In the loss to Bowie State, Doug Cook (Dania Beach, FL/University School of Nova SE University) threw for 276 yards and a touchdown, and Matt Coston had a game-high nine catches for 109 yards. Defensively, Tim Green (Fanwood, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood HS) recorded nine tackles, including five solo stops.

Cook has thrown for 2,305 yards and 13 touchdowns this season as the Lions average 20.8 points per game.

Green ranks second in the NCAA in tackles for a loss with 20.5 and also has 7.5 sacks on the season.

The Hawks have assured themselves of the best finish since joining the CIAA five seasons ago. Chowan, which had not won more than three games in a season since 2008, will look for that sixth victory. With Elizabeth City State capturing the Northern Division crown, the Hawks will look to secure a second-place finish.

Last Saturday against Virginia State, Elliot Smalls rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown, while Cameron Stover threw for 223 yards. J.R. Williams had 111 yards on seven catches and a touchdown. Defensively, the Hawks held the Trojans to 307 total yards and recorded four sacks. William Griffith led the way with eight tackles and an interception. T.J. Batchelor added five tackles and a pair of sacks.
