McKellery's 12 kills pace Lincoln past rival Cheyney

Briana McKellery paced Lincoln with 12 kills in a victory over rival Cheyney
Box Score LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – Behind 12 kills from Briana McKellery (Odenton, MD/Arundel HS), the Lincoln University volleyball team completed a season sweep of rival Cheyney University on Tuesday night as the Lady Lions earned a 3-1 victory at Manuel Rivero Gymnasium.
 
Lincoln (3-15) took the opening set in front of a packed house, 26-24, and won the second game, 25-16. However, Cheyney (0-24) broke a 9-all tie with an 8-1 spurt in taking the third set, 25-18. In the fourth set, Lincoln broke a 3-3 tie with a 9-1 run and didn't look back with a 25-19 win to take the match.
 
McKellery finished with a .296 hitting percentage and a team-high 12 kills and a pair of blocks. Cynthia Johnson (Randallstown, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) added eight kills and 11 digs. Erica McClain (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett HS) recorded a match-high 26 assists, seven digs and six service aces, while Sydney Cook (Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) finished with a team-high 14 digs.
 
Kennetha Wallace paced Cheyney with 12 digs, 11 assists and seven kills.
 
The Lady Lions take to the road for a pair of matches, starting 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 25 against Virginia State University in a CIAA Northern Division tilt.
