Sharpe's three lifts Lincoln past Livingstone

Kenny Sharpe's 3-pointer lifts Lincoln to a thrilling, 70-67, victory

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa.Kenny Sharpe (Chester, Pa./Elite Academy)'s 3-pointer with 16 seconds remaining lifted the Lincoln University men's basketball team to a thrilling, 70-67, victory over Livingstone College in a CIAA contest on Saturday night at Manuel Rivero Hall.
 
Lincoln, which led at the break, 36-33, surrendered the lead for just the first time in the contest with 11:25 remaining as Omar Ford-Bey sank a 3-pointer to give the Blue Bears a 49-48 lead. Lincoln quickly answered back and pushed the margin to 65-60 after a free throw by Chris Kinney (Washington, DC/Theodore Roosevelt SHS).
 
However, Livingstone (3-5 overall, 0-2 CIAA) rallied to tie the game at 65 with 51 seconds left. After a Lions timeout, Sharpe drained the 3-pointer with 16 seconds remaining. A putback by Trone Jackson moments later cut the deficit to 68-67 as the Blue Bears were forced to foul.
 
Denzel Mooney (Baltimore, Md./Western School of Technology) sank a pair at the free-throw line and Jackson's shot as time expired hit the front iron and bounced away, giving Lincoln (6-7, 1-1) the victory.
 
Mooney led all scorers with 23 points, six rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals. Sharpe, playing in foul trouble most of the night, finished with 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting and Justin Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor HS) added 12 points as the Lions were 23-of-53 from the floor for 43 percent.
 
Greg Henry and Nasir Austin had 16 points each for the Blue Bears, while Tyler Johnson had 10 points and eight rebounds. Livingstone was 23-of-50 from the floor for 46 percent.
 
Lincoln returns to action 7:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 9 at Manuel Rivero Hall against Johnson C. Smith University.
