Lincoln drops hard fought match to Shaw and Fayetteville State

HAMPTON, Va. —
The Lincoln University volleyball team conclude its final day of the CIAA Roundup at the Boo Williams Sportsplex by dropping a hard fought match to Shaw, 3-1, and a 3-0 loss to Fayetteville State.
 
In the opening match, Lincoln lost the first two sets, 25-10, 25-16, but bounced back with a 25-18 victory in the third set. Shaw won the match with a 25-23 thrilling fourth set.
 
Cynthia Johnson (Randallstown, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) led the Lady Lions with 11 kills and seven digs. Zakiya Williams (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco Center for the Arts) added five kills and five digs, while Sharay DuBose (Salisbury, Md./Parkside HS) chipped in with five kills, 14 assists and seven digs. Erika Bell (Owings Mills, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute HS) had a team-high 12 digs.
 
Crystal Gordon led Shaw with 17 kills and Cortnee Kelly had 18 assists and 11 digs.
 
In the second match of the day, Fayetteville State beat Lincoln with scores of 25-9, 25-18, 25-11.
 
Johnson paced the offense with four kills and DuBose had six assists. Jasmine Graves (Bay Shore, N.Y./Brentwood HS) led the way defensively with four digs.
 
Ifeyinwa Nwokolo and Joi Emanuel each had 11 kills to lead Fayetteville State and JaMisha Jordan had 22 assists.
 
The Lady Lions (0-15 overall, 0-6 CIAA) open CIAA Northern Division play 6 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 21 in Bowie, Md., against Bowie State.
